What you'll do

Sail aboard Mayflower, a small traditional tall ship, from Newport Beach, CA to the remote island paradise of Catalina. Experience the adventure of charting a course based on the wind and tide to cross the San Pedro Channel. Relax and enjoy the adventure of a long sail in this olde-time mode of travel. Experience the thrill of sea spray on deck or take cover in the pilot house and enjoy the ocean views, where you'll see sea birds, sea lions, and possibly dolphins. Once at Catalina, we will moor the boat in a harbor outside the tiny town of Two Harbors, where we will be able to kick back and enjoy the serenity of the remote island destination. We will spend some time relaxing on the island, hike to at least one scenic overlook, and have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, and kayak in the clear cerulean waters. Two nights will be spent in our on-board sleeping accommodations (generous for a boat our size, but not for the claustrophobic). Two queen-sized bunks in the aft cabin and two single bunks in the forward cabin sleep a total of 6 passengers. Six meals are included, and one will be free-for-all (there are food options on the island). **If you would like to spend a day in Avalon, we can do a 4-day trip. We will show you around Avalon on the first day and sail up the coast to Two Harbors on Day 2--anchoring for lunch and snorkeling en-route. Contact us to make arrangements.

Sailing is my passion, my life and my career! I caught the sailing bug at the age of eleven and have been at it ever since! I grew up in the Sea Scouts program, raced for my High School's Sailing Team all four years of school, and taught sailing (even directed the sailing program) at Newport Sea Base for ten years before completing my Captain's License and starting my own sailing excursion business. I love being on the water and sharing that experience with others!

Guest requirements

Up to 6 guests ages 5 and up can attend. The activity level for this adventure is moderate. Take Dramamine or similar before arriving at the boat and bring some for the sail back, even if you don't normally get seasick. The crossing to Catalina is…

More tips

Guests should be confidant moving up and down a short boarding ladder. The day-long voyage and possible lumpiness of the water makes seasickness a possibility--even for those who don't usually get seasick. Take seasickness medication at least 1 hour before sailing to ensure the best experience.
