What you'll do

When was the last time you had dim sum? Ok, when was the last time you had dim sum that was so delicious you dreamt about it for weeks? You’ll see the world’s first fortune cookie factory, taste different kinds of dim sum and tea and learn how Chinese immigrants made it to the Bay and their impact on San Francisco.
We will start at Portsmouth Square with stories of the Gold Rush, in the exact spot it all started from and try a pork roll, unique to the neighborhood. Our next taste is at a tightly packed local favorite for bubble tea. Then we’ll check out the oldest bakery in Chinatown and a church filled with pictures of the 1906 earthquake. We’ll journey down the street of the infamous 10-cent haircut and learn how the sailors journeyed here in hopes of the American dream. Then, we’ll check out the fortune cookie factory and take a peek inside!
We will continue our adventure on the outskirts of Chinatown for a dumpling feast. To finish our experience, we’ll try four types of hot tea in a local tea shop and learn about the role of tea in traditional Chinese medicine.

I am happy to take groups on unscheduled hours. Please reach out via direct message.

I have always had a passion for cooking, trying new foods, and discovering new sites and tastes on a good food tour. After graduating from college, I ventured to culinary school, where I studied French Cuisine. Since then, I have racked up seven years of experience in the food industry. I began a career as a prep cook in restaurants before designing food for grocery stores as a bakery scientist. After eating one too many cookies, a 6-month history class with the public library and 6 years in the city I started my own food experience company called Stretchy Pants.
Things to note: This tour can be hosted by Kara or Peter Abou Chacra her co-host. Stretchy Pants also has 3 other walks on Airbnb, so keep an eye out! Painted Ladies & Sweet Food Walk, North Beach Food Walk: Beer & Pizza, and Castro Food & Bar Crawl: Cocktails & Aphrodisiacs.

Jessica was a wonderful host. She offered insight from a local perspective and guided our group flawlessly. There was the perfect mix of history and modern interpretation during the tour and the food was all amazing. All the restaurant staff/owners knew Jessica by name which shows her status amongst the community

Delicious food and a unique experience in the best Chinatown in the US! We felt very taken care of, especially since the staff at each of the places we visited knew Kara so well. Kara and her team have really done their research, and it shows!

Not to miss! Had a great time walking through Chinatown, learning about the area’s history, and the character of the neighborhood. Peter was a fabulous host, making everyone feel welcome and encouraging camaraderie in the group. The food was delish.

This experience was really special and wonderfully put together. Our tour guide, Peter, was genuinely friendly and made sure we all had a great time. I bought this Dim Sum tour as a surprise for my husband's birthday and he loved it. My husband (who LOVES Chinatown and has been countless times) remarked that he saw things he never knew were there. We learned a lot and had some great food along the way. The reviews are right, show up hungry and you'll be fed plenty! We even had some special dietary requests for which they happily accommodated. Thanks so much Peter!!!

We had Kyra as our tour guide, and she was such a fountain of knowledge! I'm a San Franciscan, and I've always felt that I know the city like the back of my hand. Kyra showed me otherwise. She took us inside buildings I've walked by dozens of times but never thought to go into, and there was magic in every one. Plus, we had some of the best hole in the wall dim sum I've ever had! This tour really helped reignite the magic of SF for me.
