What you'll do

You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind blowing facts about how slavery worked.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you need it.

We use a story format, and we ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. We'll walk down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. We're not going to sugar coat anything. Our job is to give you the facts and let you make informed decisions about history.

We start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour could last between 2 - 2.5 hours depending on several factors.

So, let's get started

They call me Cooper. Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston.

I’m a southern boy, and I talk a little funny - but don't let that fool ya. I have 3 college degrees. When I'm not teaching history, I'm studying it. I’m also one of a small handful of people licensed by the city to take people on tours.

My passion for history, the love of a smaller intimate teaching experience, and the historic detail I get to show you is why I love doing what I do!

So come on now Ya'll ... let's go talk about Charleston!

Where you'll be

On our stroll through Charleston’s Historic District, we’ll see many homes from before the revolutionary war. We’ll stand under the trees where 30 pirates were hung, and we’ll hold in our hands the same door knob that George Washington held. But only on this Airbnb experience will you see a famous piece of Paris mounted on the roof of a house.

Copper was an excellent tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and ensured that we understood and answered all questions we had. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves learning about history!

This was total disappointment. Sophomoric style of touring as far as I am concerned. With added irresponsible behavior with mask wearing by host and participants. We just abandoned this silly party after 45 min of waiting for something interesting to start. Usually I love these experiences around the world but this time my money have been wasted.

Cooper was fantastic, very enthusiastic about the tour, and extremely knowledgeable. I didn’t have huge expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised by leaps and bounds. Also very dog friendly, we brought our beagle with us, and cooper our tour guide was even able to guide us in the direction of dog friendly places to eat.

Best tour guide ever! Makes history come alive and conveys a clear picture of Charleston both today and throughout time. This was my second time and it was just as interesting as the first. Definitely a highlight not to be missed. History lovers are in for a treat!

Our family of 4 had a great experience on Cooper’s tour. Very informative for all of us. Our daughter’s who are 10 and 12 also enjoyed it. Messaged Cooper when the day we wanted to tour wasn’t available and he was able to squeeze us in - appreciated his flexibility. Glad we went on our first day in town as we referenced the info we learned the rest of the week.

Great experience! Cooper’s personable exchanges mingled with factual discussion of this lovely city made the afternoon engaging and fun. Unlike any other guide we’ve had in various cities, Cooper gave a short list of ‘a local’s favorites’, including best places for cocktails, entrees, and even a venue for a sunset cruise - so helpful for our too-short stay in Charleston!
