What you'll do

Taste the Unique Flavors of Hawaii

Experience the magic of Hawaii island through one of a kind flavors and aromas.  Join Ken for a journey into artistry featuring fresh green teas on Mauna Kea Tea farm, punctuated by his own handmade, soft and delicate Hawaiian incense featuring Hawaiian sandalwood.  This is an opportunity to connect with the beauty of Hawaii in a unique way through all the senses.

This experience is offered in the spirit of 一期一會 ichigo-ichie or “a lifetime, a moment” a four-character idiom that describes a cultural concept of treasuring the unrepeatable nature of a moment.  Therefore, this will be a technology free event.  No photos or video.

You will come away from this experience having a deeper appreciation for this island, the people doing beautiful preservation work and for your own senses.

Farm is rustic - we will walk down a relatively steep hill to the tea tasting area which is exposed to the elements and has only a squat outhouse for guests.

I'm a full time artist “following my nose” studying aromatic plants and tea on the island of Hawaii.

After getting my BA and MA, I've been practicing serving tea for over 10 years and go to Asia often for sourcing and further learning. I’m also currently in apprenticeship for incense making with a teacher in Singapore.

I love to be outside and work with my hands innovating ingestible or combustible delights.

Where you'll be

As I have been a friend and guest of Mauna Kea tea farm for over 10 years, it is now my joy and honor to invite you to a tasting in these beautiful tea fields. We will walk down the hill to the tasting area which is an outdoor, rustic, yet uniquely charming setup.

I will design a beautiful arrangement for the tea tasting with artisan ceramics and flower arrangements - and some delicious tea snacks.

We enjoyed a morning tea tasting with Kenneth. The weather was a bit misty, but we were prepared thanks to a message from Kenneth before we arrived. The outdoor setting (located down a slight hill) was lovely and very peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the various teas as we chatted and sipped with him.

This is such a unique and enchanting experience. The tea was delicious, the incense smelled like no other in the best way possible and the snacks were the cherry on top. But what really did it for us was the passion that Ken had for the craft. We learned so much about tea and the practices of different cultures all while being immersed in the tea farm. Honestly it was just so cool. 10/10 recommend trying if you like tea at all or are interested in learning the culture.
