What you'll do

You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind blowing facts about how slavery worked.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you need it.

We use a story format, and we ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. We'll walk down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. We're not going to sugar coat anything. Our job is to give you the facts and let you make informed decisions about history.

We start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour could last between 2 - 2.5 hours depending on several factors.

So, let's get started
Other things to note
Our guides work hard to learn the history of this great city. If you had a great tour, take a moment and show your appreciation by tipping your guide.

They call me Cooper. Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston.

I’m a southern boy, and I talk a little funny - but don't let that fool ya. I have 3 college degrees. When I'm not teaching history, I'm studying it. I’m also one of a small handful of people licensed by the city to take people on tours.

My passion for history, the love of a smaller intimate teaching experience, and the historic detail I get to show you is why I love doing what I do!

So come on now Ya'll ... let's go talk about Charleston!

Where you'll be

On our stroll through Charleston’s Historic District, we’ll see many homes from before the revolutionary war. We’ll stand under the trees where 30 pirates were hung, and we’ll hold in our hands the same door knob that George Washington held. But only on this Airbnb experience will you see a famous piece of Paris mounted on the roof of a house.

Super informative and interesting. The way Cooper talked about history made it easy to follow and we learned so much that we feel we may not have learned on other tours. His suggestions for places to go were great and his willingness to answer any questions was appreciated. Thanks Cooper!

An amazing tour! Learned more in our 2.5 hour tour than any American history class I’ve ever taken. Cooper is full of information from both past and present Charleston. Every tour is personalized to what you want to learn. Great way to get in some steps while learning everything you could want to know about Charleston. And last but not least, Cooper gives incredibly helpful tips about staying in Charleston like food, drinks and attractions. Do this tour in the beginning of your trip!!!

Cooper is a natural storyteller! This tour was jam packed with information and fun facts ranging from history to architecture. Cooper's knowledge is really encyclopedic, able to answer any question you might have about Charleston. We appreciated the smaller group size compared to other tours we saw walking around. The pace was well thought through and were happy to run over. Definitely recommend!
