What you'll do

You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind blowing facts about how slavery worked.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you need it.

We use a story format, and we ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. We'll walk down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. We're not going to sugar coat anything. Our job is to give you the facts and let you make informed decisions about history.

We start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour could last between 2 - 2.5 hours depending on several factors.

So, let's get started
Other things to note

They call me Cooper. Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston.

I’m a southern boy, and I talk a little funny - but don't let that fool ya. I have 3 college degrees. When I'm not teaching history, I'm studying it. I’m also one of a small handful of people licensed by the city to take people on tours.

My passion for history, the love of a smaller intimate teaching experience, and the historic detail I get to show you is why I love doing what I do!

So come on now Ya'll ... let's go talk about Charleston!

Where you'll be

On our stroll through Charleston’s Historic District, we’ll see many homes from before the revolutionary war. We’ll stand under the trees where 30 pirates were hung, and we’ll hold in our hands the same door knob that George Washington held. But only on this Airbnb experience will you see a famous piece of Paris mounted on the roof of a house.

We booked this tour last minute and so glad we did! For anyone coming to Charleston I can't recommend this tour enough! Great storytelling and fun anecdotes (my fav!), Cooper knows his history and we learned so much! We will certainly be coming back to Charleston and doing this tour again as there are so many details we want to remember! A big plus Cooper is great at recommending spots to go to in town that aren't the obvious tourist traps. Also this tour was pet friendly. Thank you!

If you have any interest in Charleston history at all... this is the tour for you! I was highly impressed with the knowledge of the city that Cooper shared with us. He is an amazing storyteller and makes everything so interesting. We covered SO MUCH history of Charleston and my mom and I walked away feeling like we knew so much more than when we started. And you’ll learn information that’s definitely not taught in a textbook. I’ve taken many tours in Charleston and this one tops them all when it comes to history of the city! At the end of the tour, Copper also took the time to review restaurants that locals enjoy going to. This was an awesome touch and something that was completely unexpected.

We are so glad we booked this at the beginning of our trip. Cooper opened our eyes to see things we would’ve never seen touring Charleston on our own. His warm southern hospitality made us feel comfortable immediately. We thoroughly enjoyed the information he had to share and the flare with which he shared it. Would gladly go on another tour when we come back to visit. Well worth it!! He also shared other restaurant and sightseeing tips which was above and beyond our expectation.
