What you'll do

You're going to learn more about the history of Charleston on this tour than any other tour in town. From modern-day Charleston, to how the city came to be, even mind blowing facts about how slavery worked.

But we start by discussing what's important to you about history. What you like, and what you hope to learn. This allows us to focus the conversation where you need it.

We use a story format, and we ask you a lot of questions to spur discussion. We'll walk down the path of Charleston in a funny, interesting, sometimes irreverent way. We're not going to sugar coat anything. Our job is to give you the facts and let you make informed decisions about history.

We start at Waterfront Park and head south to the famous Charleston battery. We see some amazing sights and have some fascinating discussions about the very colorful history of the early fort of Charles Towne.

When we’re finished we’ll end up very close to where we started none the worse for wear, and the proud new owners of the most valuable souvenir you can take home from your trip – knowledge.

Please keep in mind, the tour could last between 2 - 2.5 hours depending on several factors.

So, let's get started

They call me Cooper. Passion is the only word to describe how I feel about the rich history of Charleston.

I’m a southern boy, and I talk a little funny - but don't let that fool ya. I have 3 college degrees. When I'm not teaching history, I'm studying it. I’m also one of a small handful of people licensed by the city to take people on tours.

My passion for history, the love of a smaller intimate teaching experience, and the historic detail I get to show you is why I love doing what I do!

So come on now Ya'll ... let's go talk about Charleston!

Where you'll be

On our stroll through Charleston’s Historic District, we’ll see many homes from before the revolutionary war. We’ll stand under the trees where 30 pirates were hung, and we’ll hold in our hands the same door knob that George Washington held. But only on this Airbnb experience will you see a famous piece of Paris mounted on the roof of a house.

We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour and left feeling like we had learned a great amount about the history and culture of Charleston. The stories were great and the personal input left us feeling like we learned facts we would never have known or learned elsewhere. The tour included a little bit of everything and my husband and I both love it!

Cooper was an exceptional tour guide. If you are not truly a history buff, the information could be somewhat"boring" since history holds a lot of facts and information. Cooper turned the history into great storytelling and even I loved every second of it. Would highly recommend Cooper. Fun, intertaining and valuable.

Cooper was so cool. I’ve visited Charleston many times over the past 30 years. Cooper taught me more about Charleston and the history of America than any other 2-hour tour. Really interesting and fun with a cool perspective. Highly recommend!

Best part of my first trip to Charleston! It’s a big part of my memories from this trip, and left me contemplating much of Cooper’s historic stories long after the trip.
