What you'll do

In my workshop, you will make one SASHIKO coaster of your own.

You can choose your favorite pattern from my samplers, and I will teach you how to stitch from the scratch. You can also choose the color of the thread and the fabric to make your original one. All the tools and materials (including threads and fabrics) will be provided by me. You don't have to bring anything but you and your creativity!

There are mainly two methods in sashiko; Moyou-zashi and Hitome-zashi. My workshop is specialized in Hitome-zashi technique. It uses grid lines as a guide to stitch. After stitching horizontal lines all the way, we add the vertical lines or diagonal lines(depends on the pattern). You will be just amazed how the beautiful pattern emerges as you stitch.

Both of the beginners and the experienced embroiderers are welcomed since you can choose the pattern to make by yourself. Please come and join me to experience Japanese beautiful folk embroidery.

Hi, I'm Kazue. I started hosting SASHIKO workshops when I used to live in New Zealand in 2017. Now I've moved back to Japan and started hosting the SASHIKO workshops here in Kyoto.

SASHIKO is a form of Japanese folk embroidery using a running stitch to create a geometric pattern which is simple and beautiful. I'm sure that all of the embroiderers or handcrafters will love to learn SASHIKO.

I had a fantastic time learning new embroidery techniques and learning the origin of the practice and patterns of Sashiko. Kazue was very knowledgeable and able to help me anytime I made and error in my pattern. She is a warm host with a lot of expertise to offer. I definitely recommend if you have any interest in hand crafts no matter your experience level.

Super organized, well presented experience based on knowledge and skill building in a hands on class with a lovely passionate teacher. Easy for a beginner and fun for anyone old enough to use a sharp needle.

Really fun and useful workshop. Wish it could be even longer (though my hands started to sore towards the end of the workshop). But a wonderful experience after all.
