What you'll do

Get to know the real Dominican Republic! Soak up the city’s rich colonial history, visit local markets, snack on some of Santo Domingo’s must-try treats, then end the day with an icy-cold Dominican beer.
You’ll start in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, we’ll see the Caribbean side of the old city, as we walk, eventually getting to the old city walls that once protected the city from pirates. We'll visit the Indepence Park an important landmark commemorating the Dominican Republic’s struggle for independence.
Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to explore local markets, filled with fruits, vegetables, grains, and spices, as well as the spices used in Dominican cuisine.
Learn about how Spanish and Arab immigrants brought their influence to the island. Discover the african - spanish religious syncretism of the Dominican Voodoo. We'll learn about the Dominican handmade crafts used in the countryside lifestyle and walk through Little Haiti and China Town to explore the small, picturesque businesses.
If you’re getting hungry, our walk takes us to few of the most traditional local cafeterias and bakeries in the city, where you can try much delicious and locally loved treats

I'm the founder of Santo Domingo Urban Adventures, and one of the few certified guides specialized in culture and nature in Santo Domingo. I spend most part of the day in the colonial district and I love it! It is the place where I work, where I meet with friends, where I eat and hang out during the nights. My friends Luis, Francis, Roberta and I, want to introduce you into that scene from the inside.

Luis was my guide. He was very knowledgeable not only about Santo Domingo, but also American culture and history (I’m American). I definitely learned and appreciated his honesty and insightfulness.

Great experience to see Santo Domingo in a different way, to see it thru the local “eyes”, less “touristic” and not “gift shop hopping”. He got me to the places I would probably not went myself. I felt safe and comfortable with the guide. Also during pandemic I happened to be the only guest on the tour, so that was very personal experience as well. Tour guide — Louis — was very knowledgeable on the city and answered different questions I had. Great tour, recommended to expand your knowledge on the city...

This tour offered a fun and diverse first dive into Santo Domingo. I loved getting to see the different neighborhoods, getting a great quick-course on Dominican food and culture, and getting a general understanding of some of the big monuments around town.

Wonderful experience of the Santo Domingo with our friend Jose. We got the chance to feel and taste the real local culture and how urban communities was formed by the long history. Its absolutely an eye-opening and inspiring tour, and for those of you who like fruits and dessert, you don't want to miss this perfect chance to try some of the authentic food here. I would rate it 10 out of 10 and wish I can bring my family here again in the future. Unforgettable day in santo domingo, thank you Jose!
