What you'll do

We are still hosting tours through our website. Feel free and book online. Frontera Tours Austin Texas.

We are hosting small sized tours to help keep a social distance while still exploring Austin. Check out our website, Frontera Tours Austin Texas.

Every year 100,000 people visit Austin to witness the sunset Mexican free tailed bat flight! Most guests either see it from above the bridge, on kayaks, or on trail side. This experience is the only one out there on individual SUP boards.

Stand up paddle boarding is one of the best ways to explore Austin's waterways. Our chill, self paddle includes some adventure, our amazing sky line during sunset, and an up close and personal view of the largest urban bat colony. Every summer, 1.5 million bats migrate from Mexico City to Austin, Tx. They've inhabited Congress ave bridge, and every evening they come out to feed together. Our trip will have the opportunity to see them from our paddle boards, feet from their dwelling. Join the adventure, to check off some of Austins must do's!

Paddle boarding sounds intimidating, but you can paddle on your knees, cruise like a kayak, and stand up when you feel most comfortable. Our boards are stable and easy to use! We'll also have plenty of time to paddle down to congress ave.

For the last 10 years, I've had the opportunity to guide experiences around the world. I am a Texan native, and grew up on the southern border. After studying business, I found myself with an itch to travel. I now have a tour agency in Austin Texas, Frontera Tours, and I love showing off the city. There's so much sightseeing, and tons of history. On my free time I find myself cycling around the city, exploring and eating.

Where you'll be

Lady bird lake is the reason Austin is so active. The lake sits downtown Austin, and the view of the city is breathtaking. This area is considered subtropical, and is the reason we have so much biodiversity. The sunsets are are amazing during the warm evenings, and the bats have become a part of Austins culture.

Awesome experience! Ross was friendly, professional, and attentive. Paddle boarding right to under the bridge felt like I was really connected to nature. The bats were an awesome spectacle! Hands down the best money I’ve spent in Austin.

It was a slow immersive experience. Great for unplugging to get connected with nature (with the city in the backdrop). Seeing the bats emerging from the bridge up close made the experience raw and beautiful. Ross is a good storyteller and it's been fascinating to have a conversation with him. The afternoon and night paddle boarding experience was also charming, daylight (on the way) and darkness (going back) gave a different feel for each journey. I would say beautiful isn't enough to describe the whole experience. Thank you Ross for curating this!

Beautiful mix of a tourist experience (bats) with a local flare (SUP). The waterways are magnificent and a much needed experience when coming to Austin. It is rare to find a large city with beautiful water access, so do yourself a favor and embrace it. Ross is a great guide and always has an eye out for each bat in his colony of tourists. Ha. He is laid back and lets you float comfortably with whatever experience level you do have. If it were my first time on a SUP, I would feel safe floating with Ross. There was a group of new floaters and he diligently followed after them despite the tiny current and brought them back in time for “the bat show”. He also anticipated chilly weather, offering to reschedule or bring jackets for those of us not dressed appropriately #me. Ultimate host. I’d follow him into any snow-capped alps, white crested waves or down the Colorado River again.

Ross is a wonderful host and having the opportunity to be on Lady Bird and seeing the sunset was magical. Weather prevented the bats from flying out from Congress Bridge but Ross was very willing to make other accommodations. I would book tours with him again.
