What you'll do

THE WALK
Central Park, once a swampy wilderness far from downtown, hides a history starring the original Edison lights and the biggest fair nobody's ever heard of. The surrounding neighborhood is lined with some of Louisville's grandest mansions and hidden, gas-lit walking courts inspired by Victorian-era London.

While tourists are hitting the same, well-known spots in trendy neighborhoods, you'll be in a very small group with a local writer and the big, exuberantly loving dog Cassius Thunderpaws in the most sumptuous corner of this historic preservation district, capping off with a scratch-made donut from a cult-favorite shop.

THE PUP
Cash is a goofy, sweet Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd who's been making Airbnb friends since he was tiny. He's trained as a therapy dog, though nobody had to teach him how to love people! In fact, he loves you already. To bring your dog, please book a Private Tour.

THE LOCAL
Consider this an ask-me-anything where you can get answers to burning questions about what it's like living in a sprawling home in a preservation district, the country's largest concentration of Victorian homes – but also an an evolving urban neighborhood with challenges.

THE FINALE
Over life-changing donuts at North Lime, a neighborhood favorite housed in a former industrial building, I'll share my top Louisville picks for the rest of your stay.

As a freelance writer I cover the food & bourbon scene locally, and write for national outlets about travel, food & drink, dogs, home & design, and other cool things. You may have seen my byline in outlets like Conde Nast Traveler, Esquire, Martha Stewart, Delta Sky and Food Network magazines, Architectural Digest, Salon, Apartment Therapy, and lots more. I'm also one of Airbnb's longest-tenured superhosts, with two Airbnbs at our 1887 Victorian home.

I love being an ambassador for our neighborhood and am also a vocal critic where change is needed, and can share my insider knowledge of, and passion for, our historic and often overlooked neighborhood.

My co-host/BFF Cassius "Cash" Thunderpaws is AKC Canine Good Citizen certified, and passed a therapy dog test. He's a love sponge with boundless enthusiasm for new friends.

Where you'll be

This historic urban neighborhood is my home! Cash & I stroll the park, the mansion-lined streets, and the hidden courtyards of Old Louisville daily and love to share its secrets with visitors. You might never notice Floral Terrace or the Witch's Tree if you drove past, let alone stumble upon off-the-beaten track North Lime Doughnuts. I'll share insights as a local resident and writer about our neighborhood's history, challenges, and potential.

We are in Louisville for a the Ironman. We like to tour a new area and do something unique and this was perfect. Dana is so responsive and professional. Her dog, Cash, is the best!! So well trained and loving. We are dog lovers so this Airbnb activity was perfect for us. We learned about old Louisville and the history of the area and the homes. We are so glad we decided to sign up. Finishing at North Lime Coffee and Donuts is brilliant! Such a nice place with friendly staff, delicious coffee and donuts! We will definitely go back on this trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It is something that I would not have done on my own and I was delighted with the knowledge and personal touch by Dana and Cash.

Dana and Cash were the best! For me, it was so much more important and interesting to hear the perspective of a local and her own understanding of the origins of her neighborhood and what it means to her now than some generic tour. Great way to spend a morning and I highly recommend!
