I am Mexican and I studied Textile Design in the UIA, in the CdMx. For 7 years I worked in automotive textiles with the specialization in jacquard fabric. I grew up in a family where embroidery and weaving have been present. The textile wealth of our country has always attracted me and I have studied traditional techniques with artisans from Oaxaca, Chiapas, Hidalgo, Puebla, State of Mexico and in a self-taught way. In my constant investigation I realized how hard is to know about the process and the making of the mexican ethnic textiles, so I want to share this knnowledge and be abailable to every curious as me.

This was a really nice day! The museum tour was really nice. Maite has a deep knowledge of clothing and textiles throughout history. Stitching our projects was fun as well. Maite gave great instruction and everyone’s masks (how pragmatic of us) turned out really nice.

This was such a lovely experience. It was a treat to visit the colorful and visually appealing museum of popular art with Maite. She shares her incredible wealth of knowledge about textile arts and brings alive the stories behind the vast and assorted different regional Mexican clothing styles, many of which are still worn by people in those areas to this day. Afterward, we walked together to the nearby Franz Meyer museum cafe where we had some thing to drink (included in the price) and sat in the beautiful café courtyard for the embroidery lesson. Sitting outdoors on a beautiful sunny afternoon chatting and learning about traditional Mexican embroidery while making my own creative embroidery project was such a joy. I would do it again and recommend this to anyone interested in a truly unique, artistic and elegant cultural experience downtown in the heart of Mexico City.

Maite was very nice, i made a mistake with the date and she came short notice for me. I had a great moment visiting the museum and learning the embroidery. It is a complete experience and relax at the same time. Maite speaks good english and she is very friendly, patient and easy going.

This was an incredibly informative experience. Maite's expert tour of the museum was in depth and fascinating. The tour was above and beyond what I expected! Then we walked to a beautiful outdoor courtyard to learn the embroidery techniques ourselves. Maite brought examples of all the different techniques we saw in the museum and provided us with hand outs to keep. She even had a small presentation for us to flip through and emailed the presentation to us after the workshop. We worked on our individual pieces and Maite was there to help every step of the way. It was a truly unique experience. I am recommending it to all my family and friends.
