What you'll do
Join me for a 4 mile run sprinkled with stories most Philadelphians don’t even know! Rather than feeling like a tourist, you’ll become a local weaving through the streets of Philly with me.
In addition to being America's first capital and Ben Franklin’s hometown, did you know Philly invented the Cowboy Hat and Fast Food? We explore those little known facts and hundreds more. Most tours focus on colonial Old City - we cover that PLUS the rest of amazing Philly, all in just over an hour! I'll tie together the unique Philly story as we run through its 5 main squares and tap into common themes like freedom, inclusion, reinvention, pop culture and many American Firsts.
Philly's beautiful, flat & straight streets are full of history - perfect for running tours! Whether you're here on vacation, business or even a local, there's no better way to learn about Philly while breaking a sweat! You'll walk away refreshed, and I guarantee what you learn will exceed your expectations! This tour is more fulfilling than running on a hotel treadmill and better than getting lost in the city alone.
You'll receive a detailed map overview (PDF) of 50 sites from our run to help you explore further!
Other things to note
Great for groups!
No penalty if you switch dates due to weather!
Pace is a light jog.
All runners welcome! No one left behind.
Mile updates along way.
No headphones needed.
Bring a camera for pictures.
Ask me questions!
We break as needed for pictures and water.

I'm a Philadelphian who's been giving unique tours of my city for over a decade. I'm a 5-time marathoner and member of Philly's 3 major running clubs. I'm also a proud member of the Philadelphia Association of Tour Guides (Philly's premier Tour Guide Guild). I majored in History at university and still study to this day! My expertise covers all of Philly's eras from Colonial to Revolutionary to Industrial to Post-War to Contemporary.
In short: I love Philly. I love its history. I love to run. I want to share my passions and expertise with you during your time in the City of Brotherly Love!

Great run and great history! Loved getting to know Philly’s history from a local. The run makes you feel connected to the city, and Ian let us set the pace. HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking to learn more about Philadelphia, even if you aren’t a runner!

What a great way to explore the city. Combining your hobby with learning something about the place you visit... Ian did a fantastic job telling us the history and stories about Philly, it‘s famous people and all those places. You could feel his passion about the „Underdog Philly“ the entire time - awesome! The run was easy with plenty of stops to take closer looks to buildings or places.
Next time I will check out your other runs. See you

We enjoyed meeting with Ian the day before the Philadelphia half marathon. He was friendly, and easily led us through a tour while running (we've done other running tours which have you stop and pause at places - here we ran basically the whole time while he pointed things out). He did a great job at orienting us to what we'd be covering on the run, so we had a good sense of where we were at the end. Would definitely recommend!
