What you'll do
Have you ever noticed that you feel better after being outside? Scientific studies are now showing that time in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and improve your sleep and creativity. In this guided experience, you will unplug from the stresses of daily life and enjoy spending time in the high desert foothills of Albuquerque. This is not a hard hike and not really a nature walk either. In fact, we may barely cover a mile and it will involve plenty of sitting. This is good for people of all physical abilities, who might be a little hesitant to explore the outdoors on their own or who want to unwind and slowdown. And don’t worry….this is not religiously based, you aren’t required to share any of your thoughts if you don’t want to and there will be no awkward drumming sessions! Instead, we’ll use the sweeping views of the mountains and valley to hone your quiet observation skills, give you some time to de-stress and perhaps you’ll trip over some emotional insights along the way. There will be several segments, each with a different focus, and we’ll end with a cup of coffee in the outdoors. The hope is that you will come away feeling a sense of well-being.
With one foot in the natural world and one in the art world, I have found a perfect balance in NM. I pursued wildlife science and enviro communication, but also create art as a way to capture beauty. Since moving to Alb in 2001, I have found scientific and artistic inspiration outdoors, but I also find that it’s the perfect place for introspection. I now have a global ecotourism startup business and have organized group trips to Panama, Africa, Spain and California. I adore meeting new people and love sharing New Mexico with others. Where you'll be
I hike and mountain bike in this area of Albuquerque foothills nearly everyday, year round and have scoped out the places that are a little off the 'beaten track', where I have found the perfect blend of solitude and safety. The views towards the mountains are exceptional and the views towards the valley are grand and inspiring. For people traveling from out-of-town, or who haven't explored much in the foothills, this spot is an accessible gem.
