About your host

My name is Pádraic Ó Griallais, and I’m a 6th generation poitín distiller from Connemara. My family have been producing poitín here on the shores of Galway Bay for over 170 years. Micil Distillery is named in honour of my great-great-great grandfather, Micil Mac Chearra. He began distilling in 1848 right here in Connemara. What we’ll do

The tour focuses on the story of how Micil Distillery came to be, from the original founder Micil Chearra who started with a small stillhouse in the hills of South Connemara to the current head distiller, his great-great-great-grandson Pádraic. You'll learn the real history of poitín and gin, how they're made, and what makes our own products so unique. You'll experience the sights, sounds,…

What else you should know

The distillery is located in the back of the Oslo Bar, at the main roundabout in Salthill. Unfortunately the distillery is not wheelchair accessible.

What I’ll provide

Spirits and Other
During a Micil Distillery experience you'll get the opportunity to sample the products we make here in the distillery, and will be served both gin and poitín with a selection of premium mixers. You will also get to sample our exclusive Heritage Poitín. This is included in the cost of the tour.

What to bring

When cold outside you may want to bring a light jacket, as it can be a little bit chilly in the distillery.
