What you'll do

First be welcomed with a good Scottish tea and biscuit!
Let me then talk you through some basics of technique and watch a demonstration of how to throw a pot. Including, centering, opening and wall building. At this point you can choose whether you would like to just have a go, or be talked through step by step.

You can make two pots, choose your best one for firing and glazing! Take the other home to show off your creation! Pots will be glazed in a neutral white gloss.

Information will then be given on turning, glaze and firing if you would like that.

I will turn your pot bases for you the next day, and glaze and fire when dried.
I also have a small selection of bisque for paint a pot, if you don’t like the idea of messy clay! :-)

I can post your pot on to you for a small extra postage fee of £5, or you can collect them when ready.

The focus will be on fun : - ) and experience, getting your hands messy and making something functional and beautiful to take home as a special memory.

New corona virus measures....gel hands and forearms prior to throwing. Masks on whilst in the studio. Tea and coffee can be taken in the front porch of studio, to allow masks off in there. Only one group per day is taken with anti bacterial wiping of all surfaces in between. Towels are washed at high temperature between groups :-) Other things to note Sleeves that roll up are useful!

Join me in the heart of Scotland, in my hill top cottage to learn either the electric or push wheel. I am a passionate about pottery, I sleep and dream shapes and colours. I love people and love helping them find the method that suits them best to learn. I have excellent communication skills and will make you feel right at home. I have been teaching people in many different areas for years and I am happy to choose methods that work for you. My main aim is for people to have great fun and learn skills to let their creativity flourish.

Where you'll be

Come and spend time in my off grid studio in a purpose built cabin on Dukes Pass.
The studio is located beside my cottage, which is the last house standing of a small village which used to house slate quarry workers. Walks can be taken to view the old slate quarry.
The house is located 2 minutes from the scenic three lochs drive, which offers beautiful view points and picnic stops.

Cindy is an excellent teacher for beginners. She gives enough instruction but also leaves you to experiment and try out the techniques she's walked you through. She is very friendly and the space is very clean and in line with Covid-19 regulations

Cindy was welcoming of our group even before we got there, and she was a great teacher. I was worried that we wouldn’t have anything to take away because it would be too hard but she was great at explaining and helping when needed but also leaving us to do our own thing. Thoroughly recommend this experience. Great spot too - and she was very conscious of making it Covid-safe. Thanks so much!

Cindy was a fabulous host. She was so welcoming and friendly. She explained the process and demonstrated it before we had a go ourselves. She was on hand to help when we needed assistance. The workshop in in a lovely location. This experience was great fun and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. We will definitely do it again.

We had so much fun, learnt loads and made 2 pots of our own all in a breathtaking location with the friendliest, most welcoming host we could've asked for. What a great experience, honestly couldn't have asked for more!
