A breathtaking hike to Sacred Valley

Cusco, Peru

Experience hosted by Fortunata

  1. 7 hours
  2. Hosted in English and Spanish

What you'll do

I want to take you on one of my favourite treks near Cusco. This one takes about four to five hours but including the transport it will take up the better part of the day.

We begin by taking transport to a famous ruin about 45 minutes from Cusco. From there we trek downhill, skirting around a mountainside, then zig-zagging down and down into a deep, lush valley. We stop at a cascading waterfall before dropping down further into a forest, following a stream and then crossing it over my own little bridge––yes, I had the bridge made for this purpose––until we arrive at a small village in the Sacred Valley; from there, we take public transport back to Cusco.

* My English only covers basics. I guide in Spanish and do my best in English. If you are wanting to practice Spanish or Quechua, this is an excellent opportunity.
** If you are staying in Urubamba, that is also fine.
Other things to note
Be averagely fit for this all-downhill walk. If you have bad knees or weak ankles, though, this walk is not for you given a section of slightly steep, loose, uneven and slippery-when-wet terrain.

Hi, I'm Fortunata. I am a friendly, happy and chirpy Peruvian woman. I come from a remote, Andean rural village. I speak Spanish, Quechua, Italian and basic English. I have been working in tourism for ten years and I have been guiding treks for two years. As a local guide, I know the mountain treks around Cusco inside out. I want to take you on beautiful secret walks which are off the beaten track and rarely visited by other tourists.

Where you'll be

This is one of my favourite walks that only local people know about; you rarely see another tourist on this trek. The walk takes us first through stunning mountain scenery, then into a beautiful valley. The highlight is a waterfall, but in fact the whole walk is lovely.

This tour was an absolute highlight of my trip in Peru. I am so glad that I did it and I would have missed out on something so magical if I didn’t. Fortunata is extremely knowledgeable about the area, plants and medicinal herbs. She went above and beyond, bringing a picnic lunch and having essentials we might have forgotten. She is amazing. The hike is amazing. You should absolutely not leave Cusco without going on this experience.

This hike is out of this world! The views were incredible the entire time. We had a very small group and didn’t see a single other person on this hike - it felt so special and hidden. It’s a nice refuge from more crowded places in the area. The hike also involved walking through some cool villages that I otherwise wouldn’t have seen. So grateful to Fortunata for showing us this magical place! She is an amazing guide and has so many cool stories to tell.
