What you'll do

WE ARE CLOSED FROM MIDNIGHT ON WED 21ST OCTOBER 2020 TO COMPLY WITH LEVEL 5 RESTRICTIONS. WE WILL RE-OPEN AS SOON AS PERMITTED.

Alpacas take to trekking quite easily. They walk in a line, one behind the other on a head collar and lead rope. Our guided treks start at the alpacas' barn and ascend into the forest. Each trek lasts about 1.5 hours. The walk itself is at a very leisurely pace, and is not at all strenuous.

When you arrive on site, the alpacas will be grazing, and we will call them in using their yellow food bucket! Simon and I will introduce you to the alpacas whist getting them ready with head collars and leads. We will have a brief health & safety chat, as well as give you some idea of what to expect and some pointers so you can interact with your alpaca. We will also introduce you to all of their individual quirks and personalities.

Alpacas are not able to carry packs or people, so they will accompany us as we walk the forest trail. We try not to let them stop to nibble grass for long periods. Half-way around the walk, we release the alpacas in an enclosed area, so we can feed them treats, and you can get very close and intimate with them. They will love you when we give you the apples to feed them. There will be plenty of photo opportunities throughout your visit.

Our spinning demonstration and luxury fibre display after the trek is not possible during Covid.

Simon and I adopted our first two Alpacas over ten years ago. It didn't take long to succumb to the addiction and our herd increased from two to four. Then to no one's surprise, four became six and so on until we reached 12. It is kind of like goldfish in a bowl, alpaca numbers grow to the size of the land you can have. You have to watch out though, before you know it you start looking for more land. We now have 17!

I am fortunate to have had an extensive background working with all kinds of fibre. I also teach spinning and knitting in our workshop at the farm. When we lived in England, we owned and operated a Mini Mill next to our knitting and knitwear shop called "The Naked Sheep".

This is a truly unforgettable experience- don’t miss this one! Can’t wait to return & do this again! Mia is such a thoughtful & creative person who truly loves her Alpacas. Both Mia & her talented husband Simon will share with you their love of the beautiful land of Ireland as you trek through the wood with your very own alpaca. You never have to worry about your safety. This experience is very well planned yet it’s also spontaneous, relaxing, & fun. This experience is a lovely way to connect with nature, with the earth & with animals. I can’t recommend this one enough. Book this you’ll truly miss out on a once of a lifetime experience if you don’t!

A great experience for alpaca lovers, filled start to finish with lots of information about alpacas in general, and also character traits of each alpaca on the farm. Wonderful care and love for the animals, with some great stories thrown in. The trek we walked was very easy to follow. The alpacas were all great companions for the walk! Also really appreciated the washing station for our shoes & hands at the end of the trek. Had a chance to see Mia’s workshop after the trek and learn more about alpaca fibre, including seeing some of the fantastic creations Mia has made. Highly recommended!
