What you'll do
This two-hour workshop is designed for beginners. We will take a brief look at the history of Najeon Chilgi—the Korean wooden lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Made from the shining, unchangeable beauty of pearl oyster or abalone, mother-of-pearl is smooth, iridescent, and is considered to be the jewel of the orient. The traditional Najeon Chilgi technique is complicated and takes a long time. During this workshop, we will use a technique that cuts the mother of pearl and we'll stick in these pieces to decorate a wooden plate, or a handheld mirror like a little mosaic. I will also have prepared the pre-cut pieces of shell, which will be easy to stick. All materials and tools will be provided and you will be offered a choice of different designs. Of course, you can also bring an image if you have one in your mind. You will enjoy a well-deserved drink after you've finished creating your masterpiece, which you'll get to take home with you.

Where you'll be
This workshop will be held at my home, where my family have been living for about 20years. It's not a fancy studio, but it will give you a good chance to peep into the real life of Seoul.
