What you'll do

Enjoy " elevenses" (a mid morning power snack beloved of hobbits) in Howth village at Captains William Blighs old house for the best scones and hot drinks in Ireland. As we discover each other, Karl will make a fresh little picnic to savour en-route. Leave the city and the present behind and begin your own special day becoming part of the most complete coastal nature of Ireland. Every season, every day and every moment is fresh and new. Connect with zen nature and times past in your own footsteps. Follow the trails of the Druids, the Celts, the Christians the Vikings, and Normans on the very same rocks and paths they walked. Swiftly changing habitats make you part of the tales they have to tell. Explore 7 miles/12 kms or more of rough and unknown trails and hills. Breathe the salty air and aromas of heaths, woods, jungle, shoreline and cliffs finding the magic doorways to ancient times where nothing has changed in thousands of years. Discover extravagant European history from Howth's unique Irish perspective. Share the inspiring wildlife and biodiversity of this Unesco Biosphere and ancient landscapes. Find your own personal boundaries in nature, and maybe press on them a little ! Stoke an unforgettable natural high and wrap it up in a cosy local Inn.

My Celtic clan goes back to the 5th century. Sharing the zen alchemy of Howth's nature, history and hospitality is my life. Together we will stoke the natural high that has drawn people here for 10,000 years . As a founder of Howth Coastguard, (Cliff Rescue Unit) you are in safe hands. Bruno, my doggie and I know every inch of Howth and almost everybody. I am an international licensed yacht skipper, conservationist, mountaineer, and former member of the UN Rapid Reaction Corps. I climbed Kilimanjaro with the Irish Army and ski off-piste in the Tirol. Blending nature and exposing the history and habitats of this Unesco Biosphere through seasons, weather and tides is an unforgettable new adventure every day. TV channels and movie crews from the US, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Hong Kong and Singapore have all broadcast my work.

Had a great time with Shane and Bruno! The experience is unique, it’s a must do if traveling to Ireland. Howth is a beautiful place and its surroundings are great to explore with a guide like Shane, believe me, he knows everything in the area. And having a snack in the middle of the trail with beautiful sightseeing is the best! There are different paths so for sure next trip will book again! Thank you Shane!

Amazing day spent actively in nature, the description is not an exaggeration - tropical forests, edgy cliffs, salty sea waves and luxuriant vegetation - all 30 min away from Dublin. Shane is a great guide - knowledge, confidence and an astonishing experience in the wild. He was so kind to wait for me at the meeting point, even though I was quite late. Important note: this tour requires a certain level of physical fitness, adequate equipment (layers, waterproof, trekking boots not sneakers) and a drop of courage! If you're searching for an alternative one day experience, don't miss it!
