What you'll do

Enjoy " elevenses" (a mid morning power snack beloved of hobbits) in Howth village. We can say hello as a picnic is readied. Leave the city, and the present, and begin your own special day becoming part of the most complete coastal nature of Ireland. Every season, every day and every moment is fresh and new. Connect with zen nature and times past in your own footsteps. Follow the trails of the Druids, the Celts, the Christians the Vikings, and Normans on the very same rocks and paths they walked. Swiftly changing habitats make you part of the tales they have to tell. Explore 7 miles/12 kms or more of rough and unknown trails and hills. Breathe the salty air and aromas of heaths, woods, jungle, shoreline and cliffs finding the magic doorways to ancient times where nothing has changed in thousands of years. Discover extravagant European history from Howth's unique Irish perspective. Share the inspiring wildlife and biodiversity of this Unesco Biosphere and ancient landscapes. Find your own personal boundaries in nature, and maybe press on them a little ! Stoke an unforgettable natural high and wrap it up in a cosy local Inn.

Use the Dart (rail) or 31 bus ( coins only) to get to Howth in 35 minutes from the city centre. Cost about €3.65 each way. A taxi costs about €30 each way. Great wifi on the buses and trains

My Celtic clan goes back to the 5th century. Sharing the zen alchemy of Howth's nature, history and hospitality is my life. Together we will stoke the natural high that has drawn people here for 10,000 years . As a founder of Howth Coastguard, (Cliff Rescue Unit) you are in safe hands. Bruno, my doggie and I know every inch of Howth and almost everybody. I am an international licensed yacht skipper, conservationist, mountaineer, and former member of the UN Rapid Reaction Corps. I climbed Kilimanjaro with the Irish Army and ski off-piste in the Tirol. Blending nature and exposing the history and habitats of this Unesco Biosphere through seasons, weather and tides is an unforgettable new adventure every day. TV channels and movie crews from the US, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Hong Kong and Singapore have all broadcast my work.

A huge thank you to Shane and Loki for a stunning guided tour around Howth. What a lovely way to spend a fall afternoon -- from the sun to the ancient trees to the seabirds -- it all felt magical. Indeed, Shane's engaging storytelling mentioned fairies. It felt like we were chasing them all day. I'm very grateful for a local's insight into a culturally rich land and people. I hope to be back in the spring when the flowers are in bloom!

Shane is a super story teller. He knows the area like the back of his hand and leads you to see all sorts of special spots. His dog Loki is great and makes the journey extra special.

Shane knows the Howth Cliffs like the back of his hand. Hiking with his dog, Loki, brings an added special touch to this enchanting area. We met at The House restaurant for (elevensies). The scones (and coffee) might have been the best I ever tasted. The lunch provided by the House was delicious too. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Do it!

We finished our vacation here with Shayne in Howth and it could not have been a better way to end it. It was A wonderful gift to see such beautiful sights and hear such nice stories about Howth. Couldn’t recommend this experience more! Especially to anyone traveling through Europe and wants to take an easily accessible day out of cities and into nature.

Can’t imagine having a better introduction to Ireland than my time with Shane + Loki. Shane and Loki took me on a magical journey through nature, history, and imagination. Shane gently asks for you to slow down and listen to the world around you. From there you step in to all the things that await for you in Ireland -- the story of the land, the sea, and the stones. It was perfect! Shane and Loki also know everyone. You meet the neighbor and friends. And you no longer feel the stranger. Thanks again, Shane!

So far, my favorite experience out of Dublin. It was great to get out of the city and experience Ireland's natural beauty and legendary culture. Shane is an amazing, easy-going man. I really enjoyed my time with him, his hospitality, and his knowledge. It was a pleaser meeting you ;)
