What you'll do
This is a magical tour that takes you into the forests & cornfields of the rural Mayan communities of Yucatan, their homes, gardens & cenotes.
You will meet real sustainable communities that have been living off the land for generations, growing their own food and using the natural resources of the jungle to build their homes.
The scenery is lush tropical forest, inhabited by the abundant wildlife of the region: monkeys, birds, reptiles, insects, felines and much more. The jungle is full of life: our expert guide lead you into the heart of this vibrant ecosystem. We ride mountain bikes, hike jungle trails looking for wild monkeys, paddle canoes on a pristine lake, zipline across the canopy, swim & relax, connecting with the natural world and a people who live in harmony with it.
Expect to see some resident wildlife, discover the art of local honey extraction, sample delicious homemade delicacies, make tortillas & salsa and have a huge amount of fun at the same time.
This is an active & inspiring means to discover the Mayan world. Other things to note: This experience includes a section where we ride bikes. The terrain is mostly flat and easy to cycle, you do need prior experience riding a bike.
Total 15km/9mi - quality MTB - paved & unpaved road

Where you'll be
The Mayan family we work with open their home to us to share insight on their lives: how they build, grow their food, which plants they use for medicine and so much more.
Punta Laguna: a nature reserve run by the local community who use forest conservation instead of exploitation to generate an income for the village.
We have a special relationship with these communities, having worked directly with them for over 10 years, they know & trust us.

This experience far exceeded our expectations- WOW!! We weren't sure what to expect at first, other than we knew we would meet some local Mayan folks, make tortillas, and ride bikes. However, we did so much more!! I can't believe how much we were able to fit in one day. Tania who picked us up from our accommodation was very kind, and Ursula our guide was so fun and spunky. We just adored her! We saw a cenote with turtles and we were the only ones there! We met an incredible Mayan family who made the tastiest home cooked meal from ingredients they grew on their property! We then walked through the jungle and saw monkeys in the trees and ziplined! What an incredible day! If you take this experience, you can help support the Mayan community by considering a purchase of their handmade goods. Especially with the pandemic, your purchase might be the only income they see for weeks, as visitors are much more scarce. We bought 2 gorgeous hand embroidered dresses and a dreamcatcher. And don't forget to tip the people that go above and beyond for you! Ursula was an excellent translator, however, I encourage you to practice just some basic Spanish and it will help you connect with the people that much more. My Spanish is terrible, but I gave it my best shot. You see them light up, knowing that you are trying. And what's incredible is that Spanish is their second language too, with Mayan being their first. They were all such beautiful people! Buy the ticket, and take the ride! :D

This experience was amazing! We got to pedal around Yucatan and meet some real Mayans and get to know their story and see how they live. Our guide was very attentive and knowledable, besides the main vehicle scortted us all the time for safety.

I had a really amazing experience on this tour, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a full-day experience that is a bit more off the beaten track. It ended up being a private tour, as no one else had signed up for the day. Iber was my guide, and he was very knowledgable and fun to talk to the entire day. We went to a really beautiful cenote, and spent a good amount of time biking on peaceful stretches of road and through forest trails. As a physically active person, I really enjoyed this aspect of the tour. However, my favorite part of this experience was visiting the traditional Mayan homestead, meeting the family, and eating a traditional Mayan meal. This was such an incredible experience, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn more about their way of life. The tour ended at Punta Laguna, an amazing body of water complete with canoeing and ziplining. I highly recommend this tour-- it was definitely a highlight from my trip to Mexico.
