What you'll do

You'll learn about whiskey in a private Seattle speakeasy amid an enviable collection of spirits from around the world. Is it whisky or whiskey? I'll teach you the differences and give you an overview of the various types of this famous beverage. You'll learn how to read a label and we'll discuss flavor profiles by age, finishes, adding water or ice, and more. The class will be approximately one and a half hours, depending on group size. It will include tasting notes for guests to note appearance, smell, and other comments. There's also a participatory session on reading labels and price points. Don't be fooled by marketing. All you need to know is on the label. Other topics of interest include the history of whiskey and women, how to create a tasting flight, barrel-aging cocktails, and other spirits, such as gin, tequila, and rum. Upon completion of the 90 min class, you will be my guest to taste what you've learned, compliments of your host. All are welcome! This is not a women only experience.

I've traveled the world touring distilleries and wineries. I started collecting in 2008 with a few bottles of bourbon and have grown my private collection to over 300 bottles. In 2015, I got my Certified Specialist of Spirits designation from the Society of Wine Educators. Currently studying for my Bourbon Steward from the Stave and Thief Society. I have taught a few formal classes on whiskey education to groups and corporations, but mostly enjoy hosting women who want to learn what all the whiskey buzz is about. I teach these classes in Oakland today on AirBnB Experiences with great reviews.

In November 2018, I became President of the Seattle and Bay Area chapters of a global social club called Women Who Whiskey.

I loved this whiskey experience! Niki made it fun to learn about whiskey and gave us a number of tastes of different types of whiskey/bourbon from various locations. She even let us pick something to try from her amazing whiskey library in her person speakeasy! Her home is in an amazing location with views of Lake Washington. I was a delightful way to spend an evening!

Niki invites you into her home and shares her personal collection of whiskies, while teaching you about where they come from and why they are so different. Truly a fantastic experience.

I did this experience on my own, so it was done more on a personal level. It was a great time and was well worth it! Niki knows what she is talking about and knows how convey it in a way that you understand the process and how to find the whisk(e)y of your choice!

The whiskey class was a wonderful experience! It was a lot of fun to taste as we went through the material and be able to put flavor profiles to the regions and styles we were learning about. It was very interactive and casual. Niki made sure everyone felt comfortable to share and have conversations. She was very welcoming, funny, and knowledgeable. We learned a lot and really enjoyed tasting things we wouldn't normally try.

Loved this experience! Had a great time learning about whiskey when I didn’t have much knowledge or taste in whiskey. Her house is beautiful and it was truly incredible on a sunny Seattle day 👌🏼
