What you'll do

Together we will prepare the natural soap. We will use the "cold process" to make the soap, which is also adequate to use in a house in the city. This method will allow you to make soap very easily and in no time. We will use olive oil, macerated oils and infusions prepared with medicinal plants from Sicily. I will teach you several recipes to make body soap, shampoo and soap for both solid and liquid laundry. Together we will make one of these kind of soap, and at the end you will take home your first self-made piece of natural soap!

In Sicily we have a long tradition of homemade soap. I love making soap! For over ten years, I have been producing natural soap for me and my family: we use our soap for showering and for laundry too. I like using natural ingredients from my land such as olive oil and medicinal plants such as mallow, calendula or sage. Since 2010 I have taught courses to learn how to easily make soap at home, because I think it's essential to spread the use of natural soaps that are not harmful to people or the environment.

Where you'll be

We'll do the course outdoor, under a big olive tree, if the weather will be good; otherwise indoor in my kitchen in "Casa Filosofica", our home and cultural association that unites nature, culture and good food. It's an old stone country house in a sunny untouched place surrounded by olive trees, old oaks, pines, cypresses, indian figs, many fruit trees and an organic vegetable garden.

We highly recommend this experience! Simona is such a wonderful person, we had some really nice talks under the olive tree in her garden and she is an absolute expert in soap making. We learned how easy it can be to produce your own soap and got lots of tips and recipes to try it out ourselves. It was a fun afternoon and a really unique experience during our vacation in Sicily. Thank you so much!

I thoroughly enjoyed the soap making workshop, not only because I learnt how to make soap, but because Simona was very welcoming and the location is somehow special. Simona offered me a coffee upon arrival, there was no rush to start, so we chatted for a while, then I followed Simona down a meandering path to the shade of a giant olive tree.. where the workshop was held:) Simona has been making soap for many years and this was obvious during the workshop; she was happy to share her knowledge and tips gained from experience. I was very keen to learn about the soap making process and Simona patiently answered my many questions! I left armed with knowledge and inspiration. Grazie Simona, sei forte :)

I booked this workshop as a surprise for my friend. Simona perfectly played along in not telling her what the workshop was about. After we drank a coffee and were talking a bit, we trop the topic and my friend was super happy about it. Outside, in the warmth of the afternoon sun, we then made our own "shampoo". Simona told us all about her techiniques, experience and gave us further instructions for different kind of soaps. Thank you again, Simona, for such a nice relaxing and calming afternoon at your home.

SImona and Zara were kind and welcoming. The experience was informative and very relaxing. The kittens on site were an added bonus. We will treasure the soap dearly - a topic close to our hearts!

Took a little while to get there (our fault!, we were about 20 mins late) but they were absolutely cool about it. We were the only people there (there were 3 of us) she did most of the work but that was fine, we were happy to observe. She was so informative and gave us loads of instructions on how to make other types of soap. I always wanted to do a soap making course but this was just a really relaxed way to spend an afternoon that took us out of the sun. Simona was a lovely host. Highly recommended for a rustic experience with really down to earth people who thrive on being self sufficient.
