What you'll do

We will hike the panoramic World Heritage Trails around the charming medieval village of Spitz. It is a pleasant 3-hour hike, up and down through vineyards, elm oak and pine tree forests, passing by beautiful rock formations and enjoying amazing views on the surrounding landscapes. We will visit a traditional wine tavern or inn and try local food and wine of the region (optional).

I created this tour especially for people who wish to be close to nature, slow down and discover the landscape by walking. We will be far away from the crowds, walking the hidden paths and silent forest trails. Let me show you the magic and hidden beauties of this natural treasure.

After a short public bus ride (EUR 3.60; to be paid directly on the bus) back to our starting point, we continue our journey back to Vienna. The total travelling time from/to Vienna is approx. 2,5 hours.

I consider the hike of medium difficulty because of its length and elevation differences. The terrain is partly rocky and rooted (1/3) and partly easy forest road (2/3).

MEETING POINT is easily reachable by Vienna subway U4 (15-min ride from city centre Opera/Karlsplatz).

Hi, I'm Karin. I'm the founder of Das Leben Spüren - Embrace Life, an outdoor activity organiser, offering guided hiking tours and excursions for travellers, expats and locals. Already before that, I voluntarily organised similar trips for a global expat network. I am a professional hiking guide and have a master in tourism & leisure management. I love meeting people from all over the world as much as I love nature. Combining both and showing travellers the natural beauties of my home country is what I enjoy most. Besides my passion for nature and exploring new trails, I love yoga, photography, gardening, fashion and delicious food. On my tours, I invite participants to be present at the moment by finding joy and contentment in the sheer beauty of nature, rather than boring them with facts and figures.

Where you'll be

I have fond memories of my student days with the Wachau area. The region is one of my favourite places in Austria. It is not hard to understand why the landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's fun to explore it by hiking and at the end of the day try a glass of wine or other local specialities in one of the inns. If you cannot find your preferred date in the calendar, please contact me for further options.

Wow! This is my first Airbnb Experience and I’m so glad I did it! I wanted something different from the typical tours. I did this on my first day and it was the highlight of my trip. First, there was excellent communication. Karin checked in with me and helped me figure out which train to take to the meeting point. From there, she drove us to the trail. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a small group - 3 other people so it really felt intimate. My tour mates knew each other but I still felt like I was a part of the group. Karin knows so much about the area and has such an interesting background and life experiences. She’s a genuinely nice person and I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with her during the hike. The hike itself was AMAZING. Such beautiful views of Spitz and Wachau Valley and the Danube river. Vineyards upon vineyards. So many green hills! We also chances upon some tasty snacks along the way. Fresh apples, walnuts, and a vineyard owner was kind enough to give us some grapes. I still recommend taking some of your own snacks with you and water. After the hike we stopped by a cute cafe with a nice view and I got a wine from the area and an apricot strudel. Delicious! I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend. I’m an active person so this hike was totally manageable. However, there are some steep areas. Karin is very patient and helpful so don’t worry if you need a little time!
