What you'll do

We will meet at 9:00 at Dana's Cheesecake Bakery in the food court of Saturday Market and start the day off with a steaming cup of coffee or chocolate. Listen to a description of the history of the Market, how it is organized and hear about the characteristics that make it a special place.
The group will then make their way through the maze of nearly 250 craft booths. We will meet and talk to long time Market members along the way and view the exciting array of handcrafted goods on display.
Then a stroll through the vibrant and colorful Eugene Farmer's Market will show the extent of small farm produce available in the Willamette Valley. Across the street we will view the unorganized outlaw market that takes place on the fringes of Saturday Market and usually hosts the rhythmic weekly drum circle.
The tour will end back at the food court at 10:15 where the group can have breakfast on their own and listen to the first set of music on the Market stage.
Other things to note
Be prepared to find lots of handcrafted wares that you will want to buy and lots of foods that you will want to try. Nearly all food vendors and crafters accept credit card transactions.

I am a former manager of this oldest weekly outdoor handcrafted market in the United States. My background as a folklorist and micro-business professional gives me a special insight into this fifty year old Eugene institution. I still can be found nearly every Saturday morning sipping coffee in the food court and chatting with some of the 250 or so handcrafters that give the Market its energy and special appeal.

Bill was really great at giving specific info about the market and fielded questions about the area excellently. Friendly, informative, and fun. Enjoyed I!

Touring the Saturday Market with Bill was a complete joy. I am so glad I signed up for this! Bill was beyond knowledgeable (obviously, considering he basically ran the market for 12 years!) and very amiable to my questions not only about the market but the whole city of Eugene. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Eugene for the first time and I think it would still be a fabulous tour for people new or accustomed to the area who want to truly appreciate all the history and love that went into creating & continuing the legacy of Saturday Market.

Bill has a unique perspective on the Eugene Saturday Market and it was interesting hearing about its inception, history, and principles.
