What you'll do

Walking with goats
a special walk through the Allgäu

Come with us on a special walk into the unique landscape of the pre-Alps. Together we set off, accompanied by the clowns among the ruminants: the GOATS. Depending on the weather, season and time of day, but above all depending on the abundance of the goat's stomach - sometimes faster, sometimes slower, accompanied and accompanying - we walk on field and forest paths near Altusried. Passing small hamlets and resettler farms, we turn around for about two hours and observe what the horn-bearers are up to. Here the journey is the goal, in the truest sense of the word.

The fascination for animals has been with me since my childhood, which I spent in large part on the neighboring farm. Diverse poultry and especially Max, Emma and Paul, my dogs, enriched my life.
Then, on the area where I am a substitute pensioner, the blackberries took over. So it was obvious to use goats as a landscape keeper. And as it gets boring for the fun-loving jumpers, I started taking walks with them ...
Why goat walks are never boring, the goats like to show you

Where you'll be

Outside of Altusried we meet on the goat pasture and get to know the goats. You already know: When there are new people, we make our way across the beautiful hills. We take a two-hour round on field and forest paths and past small hamlets and resettlers' yards.

Die Wanderung mit Ingo und seinen Ziegen hat uns super gefallen. Wir durften viel Neues über Ziegen erlernen und deren verschiedene Charakter kennenlernen. Wir können die Wanderung jedem weiterempfehlen.

I would do this every time I’m on the area! We had signed up while visiting the area 2 years ago, but then it didn’t work out. So this time, I signed up again and was just delighted by the whole experience. We arrived and parked according to instructions, and even the drive there was delightful, through rolling hills and pastureland, with the Alps in the distance. Ingo was there to greet us and made us feel at ease right away. Besides my friend and I, there were about 8 other people, including families with children. The walk took us along farm paths, through a lovely forest path with lots of ups and downs, along meadows and pastures. All along, the small herd of goats (maybe 8-10 total) would stop to find tasty foliage, climbing uphill and downhill from the path, but always trotting back to Ingo when he whistled and called them by name. He told us a little bit about each goat, including their role in the very important “pecking order” and who was friends with whom. For the portion of the walk that led us close to several farms, we each took a leash and kept “our” goat in the right general position for them to all get along well. The walk took about 2 hours; the landscape was so beautiful, and the time went fast out in the fresh air with cheerful people and entertaining goats. :-) Ingo is such an enjoyable and capable host. He made it really fun for everyone, from a 60-year-old (me) down to a grade schooler and preschooler. He also made sure we knew the essentials to keep things going well, such as giving the he-goats plenty of space whenever they decided to butt heads with their friendly rivals. I heartily recommend this half-day activity for anyone who has sturdy shoes, stamina for a 2 hour walk at a relaxed pace, and good basic balance / strength for following the path a bit up and down and around in the forest portion of the walk. (Which, by the way, was the most fun part of the walk for my friend and I, with the soft moss underfoot and the sunlight through the tall pines, and the goats skipping around to find their favorite leaves.)
