Immerse yourself in Norfolk's history, culture and modern vision. From the purchase of Norfolk for 10,000 pounds of tobacco in 1680 and the U.S.S. Constellation staving off British attackers in 1812 to the 21st-century rebirth of our downtown district. Feel Norfolk's spirit as Mike, your guide, walks you through the centuries of history, progress, and cultural evolution. This two and a half hour walking tour spans three miles and concludes with tapas meal at The Barrel Room. Colonial and revolutionary history- See the Norfolk Mace, a prized symbol of Norfolk's Sovereignty since 1754 and the British cannonball lodged in St. Paul Church since 1776. Centuries of progress- See visionary Peter Wright's home and hear his story. In 1900, Mr. Wright headed the gas, railway, and ice industries and was the first to drive a car down Main Street. Todays Renaissance-In 1973 Norfolk installed the Commercial Place Fountain sparking a 40-year revitalization of our downtown that continues today.

We will stroll the riverfront, Freemason, Ghent and Downtown bourroughs. This tour exposes the cultural, political, and economic influences that were the seeds of Norfolk's modern society. Learn about the Norfolk Mace at the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk's revolutionary Patriots at the Moses Myers House, and tread through hidden interior ways in our modern downtown district.
