What you'll do

Experience the social, political, and economic history that pollinated Norfolk's riverfront boroughs.

Encounter our colonial past and live the new renaissance in Norfolk.

Immerse yourself in Norfolk's history, culture and modern vision.

From the purchase of Norfolk for 10,000 pounds of tobacco in 1680 and the U.S.S. Constellation staving off British attackers in 1812 to the 21st-century rebirth of our downtown district get a broad view of Norfolk's history.

Feel Norfolk's spirit as Mike, your guide, walks you through the centuries of history, progress, and cultural evolution.

Colonial and revolutionary history- See the Norfolk Mace, a prized symbol of Norfolk's Sovereignty since 1754 and the British cannonball lodged in St. Paul Church since 1776.

Centuries of progress- See visionary Peter Wright's home and hear his story. In 1900, Mr. Wright headed the gas, railway, and ice industries and was the first to drive a car down Main Street.

Today's Renaissance-In 1973 Norfolk installed the Commercial Place Fountain sparking a 40-year revitalization of our downtown that continues today.

We enjoyed the walking tour of downtown Norfolk very much. Michael is very knowledgeable. He shares a lot of information in a short period of time. My husband and I are both locals, and we learned so much about the history of Norfolk that we never knew.
