What you'll do

Discover Warsaw’s downtown off the beaten track - its Southern part. You will see places that even locals may not know.

Meet your guide under Charles de Gaulle`s Statue on Rondo de Gaulle to begin your walking tour. First you'll see the former communist headquarters which nowadays attracts people by its vibrant cafes. Then you'll stroll over a mysterious section of the Warsaw Escarpment, along which the city has evolved over the centuries. We’ll look for a secret meeting spot from the 1700s, and for the former Mason's lodge. Then we'll look for bullet holes on façades of buildings where the Nazis resided. Wander around a cool urban garden, and after this "feel like the countryside place" step into an elegant 19th century park with sculptures of famous Polish artists. Walk down an elegant venue with 19th century residences of Warsaw elite.
You'll continue the tour and cross a significant communist era housing estate, and visit a beautiful university complex from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Then find out where the "Pianist" movie was filmed, and stop at my favourite sweet shop to try some of their incredible pastry. The tour will come to its close at a cozy food venue, where perhaps you will like to stay.

This tour will allow you to see Warsaw from a local's perspective, and to see a fascinating area that visitors usually miss.

My name is Łukasz, and I was born in Warsaw. This is the city of my ancestors: my family has been living here since the 19th century. I studied social psychology, and I`ve been a professional licensed guide of Warsaw since 2013. I'm also a certified guide of the Royal Castle. I guide people from all over the world, and this is what`s incredible about it - meeting people from different cultures. I love my job and I love sharing my knowledge and passion about my city :-)

I am the author and curator of two websites about Warsaw - Warsawcitytours.pl and Klimatwarszawy.pl, where I write about history, architecture, local restaurants, museums, public art and places that I think are worth visiting, but cannot be found in regular guide books.

Where you'll be

The Southern part of Warsaw’s downtown is still overlooked by visitors, but it offers an authenthic feel of a place where locals actually live, and spend their free time. It's not a touristy area. It's full of interesting architecture, elegant 19th century residences and parks, good restaurants, small cafes, hip bars, designers boutiques and private art galleries.

I really enjoyed Lucasz explanations and knowledge of history and architecture. This is definitely not something I would have seen on my own. He took us through some local gardens and various sections of the center as described in the overview. He was personable, patient and charming. I recommend this walk and would suggest comfortable shoes.

Lukasz was amazing. He knows everything there is to know about the city. He was very interactive in the tour and would explain anything you asked. He would even answer question that did not pertain to the tour. Besides showing us the historical side of the city he would also show us amazing places to eat and give recommendations. He would explain all the historical sites and give a nice background story on each section. Definitely worth doing. Also, he was a very cool guide and I would definitely come back for another tour with him.
