What you'll do
Hawaiian cuisine has a rich history that dates back nearly two thousand years with influences from Polynesia, Asia and the West. In this class you'll learn traditional Hawaiian cooking techniques, and how to replicate these techniques in a modern kitchen. This will be a hands on experience that will help you to bring a bit of Hawaii back home! Our class with take a culinary journey through the history of Hawaii. We’ll first cook two ancient Hawaiian dishes that are staples of the Hawaiian lu’au. Next, we’ll cook two dishes that reflect the changing culinary landscape in Hawaii during the early to mid 1800s. Finally, we’ll explore modern Hawaiian cuisine that reflects the increasingly diverse population in Hawaii during the 1900s. Finally, you’ll have a chance to relax and enjoy your creations on our beachfront home just a few feet from the Pacific Ocean. After this class you'll be able to throw your own lu'au for friends and family back home!

Aloha! I was born in raised in Hawaii and am excited to share our culture with you through delicious food. I studied Hawaiian culture in Hawaii's oldest missionary school. After graduating, I worked as a chef and general manager at several restaurants specializing in Asian cuisine. I combine my knowledge of Hawaiian culture and experience as a chef to help you recreate traditional Hawaiian food in a modern kitchen.

Where you'll be
This class will take place in our beachfront home just steps from the Pacific Ocean. We'll hold this class outdoors if the weather is nice, and give you lots of time to explore the beach! Our home is four miles away from Waikiki and can be easily accessed by car, taxi, Uber, Lyft or bus.

Our dishes include pork, chicken, raw fish (salmon and tuna) and nuts. Please let me know if you have any allergies. Our dishes rely on meat so vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian menus are not possible. We will have LOTS of food to take home, so it's best if you don't come on your last day in HI
