Justin is knowledgeable and passionate about the Drakensberg, its fauna and flora, and the history of the region. We opted for the two days, one night hike. The first day we reached the Drakensberg at around 8am and set off shortly afterwards at an easy pace, stopping for short breaks and to take in the surroundings, and enjoyed a picnic lunch at a natural pool. Justin took us to a few sites where we got to see some fascinating Bushman rock art.  Camp was set up inside a cave near a waterfall with amazing views overlooking the valley. In the evening we helped prepare a dinner of spaghetti bolognese -- just what we need after a long day of hiking, before turning in for the night. On the way back to the starting point the next morning we we're lucky enough to spot a troop of baboons.  The trip is great value with Justin providing all hiking gear: sleeping bags, sleeping mats, cooking utensils, and backpacks; and pick up and drop off from our accommodation in Durban. All meals were also included. Justin took a bunch of pictures throughout hike, which he kindly shared with us at no extra cost.  The experience is suited to both newbie and seasoned hikers. My sister-in-law – who was new to hiking – found it to be more than manageable as a beginner.    All in all this was a super trip. Thank you for a memorable experience -- we had a wonderful time in the South African wilderness.

All I can say is, wow! What an incredible experience! Justin took me to a magical part of the Drakensberg mountains, and we hiked up towards the cliffs taking in all the sights and sounds on the way. We passed some ancient rock art, that was created by the original inhabitants of the area, and he told me bits of history about their way of life. It's all beautifully preserved, like something you'd see in a museum! Justin told me that this is because the locations of the rock paintings are no longer marked on any maps (to prevent vandalism), you have to have someone show you where they are. The water in the Drakensberg is clean and so we were able to swim in the many stunning rock pools and drink the water right from the rivers. At one point on the hike, we saw a pack of baboons in the distance barking, and a big herd of wild antelope crossing right up close to our path. A real special experience if you're not used to being right up in nature like that. The cave was much better than expected, it was very large and comfortable, with a cascading waterfall right there at the entrance. Hikers have arranged the cave in such a way as to maximize space and comfort without making anything "unnatural", so for example, cutting grass to lay down as a soft surface so the ground isn't dusty, and arranging large rocks as tables and chairs. Justin was very accommodating in his walking pace, very patient, and he seemed to have a real passion for showing people the mountains, truly enjoying pointing out all the different plants and names of the ranges. The food was terrific - who would have though such delicious spaghetti bolognese could be made, so far into the wilderness! I used his equipment that he has for guests, and found it all to be in really good condition and very lightweight and appropriate for the conditions (sleeping bag and comfy mat, backpack) The Drakensberg is a world class hiking destination and it really cannot be understated how beautiful this area is, so untouched and unspoilt. The scenery is like something out of a National Geographic documentary. I highly recommend this experience!
