What you'll do

Johannesburg is still a very young city, it's only established in 1886. I'll guide you trough how Joburg came in to existance. We'll get to meet the pioneers of the city and the powerhouses that invested in what became the biggest goldfield and the beginning of Apartheid.
The experience includes visiting some of the oldest bars where we can have a drink at the longest barcounter in Africa. Also meet the first multi-racial bar in the Inner-City where black and white people came together during Apartheid.
We stroll in a safe way through the citystreets to get an overall experience of Joburg. We go on top of Africa, where you get a 360° view over the landscape of Johannesburg.
The tour ends with an authentic South-African lunch, township food with a modern twist.

Where you'll be

During the tour we will be in the Inner-City of Joburg. We'll start in the first members'club of Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela was the first black member of the club in 1994. After that we'll go to the first multi-racial bar. Where during the hard times of apartheid black and white people came together.
We'll pass by the city hall and go to the top of Africa where you have a 360° view over the landscape of the city. We end up in no 1 fox

Bright was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He took us to all the spots the red bus goes but it was way better doing it with a local than on a dumb bus. Good times and dope vibes.

Bright is a nice guy who really knows the city. He tries his best to give you an excellent experience and he keeps you safe on the trip. I really enjoyed the tour and I've been to places I wouldn't visit on my own.

Johannesburg is not the easiest city for independent exploration, and being there for 3 days only, a guided tour with a local insider is perhaps one of the best things we could do. We joined Bright's group, and it was a great experience. Bright is indeed a bright personality, with so much love to his city and to life in general, with a lot of knowledge about today's life in Jo'burg. We walked around Maboneng, where Bright gave a lot of insight about the area, a lot of it was not obvious at all. Other parts of the trip (some made in a private mini-bus) were as insightful. Among other stuff, Bright showed us into a unique antiques/bookshop with over a million used books, that was something! If not for him, we would have definitely missed it. All the time we felt comfortable, safe and interested. Even though the group was much larger than we expected (about 18 people, as we were joined by Curiocity tours), Bright was holding the audience well, and transportation was well organised too. Last but not least, Bright is just a very charismatic personality, apparently very talented and artistic. So overall a great experience, 4 stars only because of the unexpectedly large group.

Bright is an interesting young man with a strong passion for the city! It is a fantastic place to see how sudden wealth tends to cause rapid rise, and fall or slide into decay. But the inner city is starting to buzz again, to really feel it go to Maboneng and hang out in a restaurant or bar for a few hours ... I recommend Patapata on Fox.
