2.5 hours

Up to 10 people

What you'll do
City walk sampling Central American/Belizean foods.
(Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten-Free friendly)
We will sample at least 6 - 8 Belizean favorite dishes, all by local vendors and you will learn the history and preparation techniques of each, as we enjoy. Our restaurant is the only one in town that features handmade classic Belizean Tamales so we discuss these, then each person gets a bottled water, and we venture out to a local taco stand, then walk a few blocks to an authentic tortilla factory to taste hot tortillas direct from the ovens. We continue around town to sample Belizean favorites of local foods, everything from street foods to Belizean Chocolate and Homemade Belizean Rum Creams.
We can also show you how handmade tortillas are made for quesadillas and burritos and a Belizean favorite - Coconut Buns.
We will make 5 or 6 additional stops before returning to the starting point. During the stroll, we experience at least six of the following (depending on the day and taste of the participants):
1) Watch hand-made Papusas being made & sample (El Salvadorian fare)
2) Belizean Breakfast Tacos
3) Classic Belizean Chicken, Rice & Beans
4) Central American Paletas (all natural popsicles made by hand from fresh fruit)
5) Salbutes
6) Garnaches
7) Tomalitos (Ducunu)
8) Belizean Rum Creams
9) Belizean Meat Pies
10) Coconut Tarts
11) Classic Belizean Tamales
Other things to note
I am an American, living in Belize for almost 5 years. My wife and I own/operate a restaurant on the “locals street”, just outside the tourist district. Then I share local foods via local food stalls & Belizean owned small stands for an authentic Belizean experience.

We believe travel is about discovery. Venturing onto that side street calling your name, popping through the open door, following delicious smells to a new food stall. Straying off the beaten path, and into a new world. Finding the extra-ordinary, through food, culture, conversation. At our restaurant, Iguana Juan’s, we offer a different view of the island, upstairs, overlooking the pulse of local life on Back Street. Filled with the flavors of Belize, tacos, garnaches, tostadas, meat pies, rum creams and fresh fruit paletas, Back Street and the center of town offers a friendly, welcoming vibe and a fabulous culinary adventure.
We'd like to share that with you. We'd like you to meet our neighbors.

A must do!! We really wanted to dive into the the culture of San Pedro upon arrival. This was the perfect activity! We learned so much, got to try 6-7 local food types, and got a walking tour on top of it all! Brad was a phenomenal host, he is American but moved to San Pedro and knows so much of the culture, he explains all the food in detail and also pairs it with history of the the country. Very cool experience, could not have soaked it up without the local knowledge and expertise Brad brought to the table! Thanks again Brad! We loved it.

Hello hidden gems in San Pedro! I recommend you take the food tour early in your vacation so you can come back to visit the stops because they are delicious! Brad was a great food guide in the town, he had many stories and took his time answering any questions we had.
