What you'll do

We’ll stroll around the eastern end of Portland, visiting some of my favorite local craft breweries and trying a wonderful selection of Maine craft beers, curated by one of the few Certified Cicerones® in the world.

You’ll get to try various styles of craft beer, have a fun & relaxed time, get a little exercise (nothing too strenuous!) and fresh air, and visit some cool spots that you may not have found on your own.

In regards to beer, the emphasis is on quality, not quantity. Beers are mainly sample/smaller serving sizes and for the sake of the venues involved and their staff, we ask people to drink responsibly within their own limits. That said, of course you will still have the opportunity to try plenty of beer on this tour!

We go ahead with the walk rain or shine, so please wear weather-appropriate clothing etc, and if in doubt, bring an umbrella! That said, the vast majority of the time you'll be inside drinking beer ;-)

Hi! My name is Alan Seabright, your beer guide. I'm a Certified Cicerone® (like a beer sommelier), avid home brewer & craft beer lover in general.

As one of only just over 4,000 Certified Cicerones in the world, and a handful in the state of Maine, I'll help you find the right beers for you.

Having worked as a tour guide & run my own successful tourism businesses for 10+ years in different countries around the world, you can be sure I’ll give you a great tour!

These days I love to help people enjoy their time in Portland, especially in tracking down the tastiest local brews.

I'm originally from England, but after traveling the world, over 5 years ago I married a wonderful woman from Portland, and then moved to Maine, to live life the way it should be!

Where you'll be

We'll stroll to a few different craft breweries, trying a total of around 10 different local beers (included in tour price). The places we visit can change depending on the day of the week & sometimes the interests of whoever is present that day, but the tour will usually involve one old Portland classic brewery, one farmhouse/Belgian-style craft brewery, and one of the best up and coming local craft breweries specializing in fresh, hoppy beers.

Great intro and history of Portland breweries. Alan is worldly and articulate in his knowledge of beer history and brings that to straight to this tour. Highly recommended

Alan’s tour was an excellent way to spend a Saturday for first-timers in Portland who happen to love great beer. Alan’s trip was thoughtful and we made new friends for the weekend. Would highly recommend.

Alan was very knowledgeable about beer and how it’s made. We enjoyed our little adventure and appreciated his time! I would highly recommend this tour.

I had a great time on this tour with Alan and the rest of the group! We tried lots of different beers, and even had an additional stop-off on our tour. Alan is a fount of beer knowledge, but also really friendly and accommodating. I went in not knowing much about specific types of beer and left with a much better understanding. As a solo traveller I particularly appreciated the welcoming group atmosphere. It was also nice to wander around a different area of Portland, a little outside the Old Port (but still well within walking distance). My only regret is leaving this experience to the last day of my trip as I came away with so many ideas for places to visit and beers to try in Portland and elsewhere in Maine!
