Create pottery with an Atlanta artist

Decatur, Georgia, United States

Experience hosted by Deanna

  1. 2 hours
  2. Hosted in English
Fun for couples
Something to try together.

What you'll do

We require hand washing upon entry, and require masks. We'll introduce ourselves and we will give you a tour of our professional studio and kiln area to have an insider's view of how pottery is made and tour our gallery. Your instructor is an Atlanta ceramic artist, our studio is an incubator for those launching careers as artists selling their work.

We'll have a short demonstration then an artist will guide you to make pots of your own. You will make 2-3 pots over the course of the next hour+ then you will get to select your own glaze colors for us to finish and fire your work. Unlike other experiences - there are no extra fees for extra pots! Great for groups or couples.

Since pottery takes several weeks to dry, then proceeds with two firings - pottery that you make during your event will be ready in about 6 weeks. Local pick-up is free. We can give an estimate for US shipping rates while you are here, international deliveries will require more exacting details for shipping rates and will require a follow-up email and/or invoice. Average US shipping is between $15 and $20. Your instructor will be in touch when your pottery is complete.

This experience is kid-friendly for ages 8+ but we do ask that you are booking in the morning slot if you have kids. No bookings will be accepted for kids with no adults present. Thank you!

In our pottery-making experience, you will be working directly with professionals who are making and selling their work in galleries, art festivals, and online. My co-hosts are artists here in our studio full-time. Meredith, Molly, Caroline, and Niki are my fabulous co-hosts. We are passionate about what we do and hope that we can bring that passion and fresh understanding of handmade ceramic work.

I am the co-owner of MudFire and I have been in the ceramic industry for over 20 years in supplies, glaze chemistry and formulation, and as a published author in addition to running a studio and gallery. We hand select our instructors and resident artists to be a part of our Airbnb team.

Our studio turned 21 this year :) We are a diverse, inclusive maker space that hosts Airbnb experiences, date nights, and has a studio membership program.

My instructor, Molly, was so great. She explained and demonstrated everything very well and helped everyone to be successful. I was surprised to be able to create a simple piece of pottery in such a short time. I would definitely do this again!

Nikki was our instructor and she was so welcoming, funny, and helpful. I am ready to get a membership at their studio after this experience. Also they made me feel very safe with COVID measures.

The experience was a great value overall! I learned a lot and am looking forward to seeing my final pieces in 6 weeks. Every person from the group I went with really enjoyed it! I will definitely recommend this to more of my friends, and some have already requested information about this from seeing my instagram story.

What a fun time! I have never done pottery before but this class was very clear and informational. With Molly's instruction I was able to complete a couple of awesome things that turned out great. I can't wait to go again.
