The Surreal San Francisco Walking Tour

San Francisco, California, United States

Experience hosted by Clyde

  1. 2 hours
  2. Hosted in English

What you'll do

Please note: this is NOT a regular walking tour.

It’s an edgy, outrageous, uniquely-San Franciscan experience.

Have a few laughs with Clyde Always, the Bard of Bay City, storyteller extraordinaire, whose stage show has been featured at such beloved local venues as The Marsh Theater, the Lost Church and Café International.

You’ll be dazzled by several of Clyde’s own modern myths, legends, fables and fairytales. The cast of characters includes: a conceited coyote, a demonic barista and a pirate on a quest for fancy eats…

In between these zany stories, your host will be pointing out various dives, murals, coffeehouses, landmarks, shops and stunning Victorian architecture—no shortage of Instagramable photo-ops, here.

Miles away from the rest of the tourists, you’ll get some insider knowledge of three of the City’s hippest neighborhoods—the Mission, the Castro and the Haight.

Looking for fun things to do and delicious things to eat? Clyde’s got the hot tips.

Be warned! Your host is a fast-talker and he may tell you a few phony “facts.” Take anything he says with a grain of salt.

If you’re offended by profanity, soap will be provided (but bring your own water).

Scared of heights? Rest easy—the route involves no hill climbing!

This stroll is guaranteed to entertain, enliven and uplift both visitors and locals alike.

Where you'll be

Disclaimer: the location in the cover photo is not part of the tour route. This was (admittedly) clickbait. The Golden Gate Bridge is not one of the landmarks you will see...

BUT, you will see: Mission Dolores, The Gayest Place on Earth, Fancy Coffee Alley, Mama Tree's Hideout, Gargoyle Corner, The Scott Street Labyrinth and much more!

What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Clyde is such a fun storyteller and guide. He walked us through the neighborhoods of Mission, Castro and Haight telling us about the art, architecture and history while also entertaining us with his fun poems and stories.

We didn't have any expectations...and we were totally blown away by clyde's energy and imagination. He knows a lot about the city, takes you to beautiful areas you maybe wouldn't go on your own - and he's got some crazy storys to tell! A true Bard. 6 of 5 stars!

Clyde was the best. Super personable and knowledgeable and fun guy. He showed me and my fiancé around San Francisco to places we never would have known about! Def glad we booked this experience and would recommend to anyone visiting the SF area wanting to see more of the historic side of the city with fun tales along the way. Thanks Clyde!!

A really unique experience, with brilliant stories! A different way to visit the less known corners of san francisco which is well worth the money!
