What you'll do

The ancient pattern of the labyrinth is based on the spirals and circles everywhere in nature. My labyrinth in the meadow of For the Joy Of It Creative Retreat is a Cretan labyrinth. A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. It has a single circuitous path that winds its way into the center. The person walking it uses the same path to return from the center and the entrance then becomes the exit. Labyrinths are used as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection, stress reduction, and to discover innovation and celebration. The practice of labyrinth walking integrates the body with the mind and the mind with the spirit. Generally there are three stages to the walk: releasing on the way in, receiving as you pause for as long as you like in the center and then returning as you retrace your steps back out of the labyrinth. Symbolically, as you return, you are taking back out into the world what you have received. There is no right way or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. We will meet to reflect before and after your labyrinth walk. I will be your silent witness while you are walking.
