What you'll do

We will start the experience on a walking tour to the point where we will start a descent down a stairway to a dry cenote, there we will see some varieties of local plants, we will know their use and importance, we will enter the vault of the cenote where we can see some Local bee varieties in their wild state, it should be mentioned that bees do not sting because they do not have stings.

Later we will walk through a path in the jungle where we will identify the main plants for the production of honey. We will arrive to our meliponario where we will talk about the process of honey coke, we will know about the other products of the comena as well as their health properties and we will even be able to open a beehive to observe the amazing architecture of the bees.

We will make a tasting of honey and other products of the hive. And finally we will visit our small store of honey and souvenirs. Of course we will not forget the souvenir photo at the end of the experience.

It is necessary to wear comfortable shoes for walking and closed shoes. Use organic mosquito repellent.

We are a team of 4 guides, Jorge, Dianela, Gerardo and Julia, so one of us can accompany you in this experience
Other things to note

I am Jorge, since I was a child, beekeeping has been part of my life, it is the inheritance of my parents, from whom I learned with love and passion the care and conservation of bees; knowing about them led me to deepen my knowledge of the Mayan culture, my culture, and of which I am very proud; Now I am looking to share what I have learned and to look for more local people, Mayan people to be proud of being so, because we are descendants of a great culture.

Where you'll be

We have the bee farm in a property that is the inheritance of my grandparents, it is located a few minutes from the center of the city. It is a space where nature and wildlife abound, you can find plants of all kinds, birds, insects, etc. The most special place is the dry cenote, a place full of magic and nature.

The facilities have bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, parking, hammocks to rest, WiFi, a small shop and much more.

This tour was excellent in that the guide was thorough in her explanations, referring to her iPad with videos and other images to complement the learning experience. I learned a lot about the native bees, watching them in their natural habitats as well as learning about the life-cycle of a cenote, native plants, enjoying beautiful birds flying overhead and iguanas scrambling in the trees. I was shown how the bees construct their hives in the boxes, and was given a lovely tasting of various honey products. I had a private tour starting at 1 p.m. but the route is shady and I didn't have a problem with the heat. It was about 65 minutes long, not 90 minutes but I felt the pace went perfectly.

Super interesting tour about the native species of bees in Yucatán region. It was very thorough, thoughtful, organized, and fascinating!! We got to try bee products at the end of the tour including a honey and lemon drink that was super delicious and refreshing. 100% recommend this tour, especially for the price!!

For me this was a fantastic experience. I know how valuable bees are to the planet and human survival here. It is highly important that people educate themselves about this, and this family-owned business does that. The entire property is beautiful, and especially the cenote where the majority of the bees are located. It was fascinating to see the bees buzzing around and making honey and collecting pollen. Our guide lady was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I highly recommend that you support the business and try/buy some of the most unique types of bee-made products.

Very interesting tour. Learned many new things about the Mayan bees (melipona bees). My tour guide Dianela was very knowledgeable and friendly. If you want to do something different, take the tour. Easy bicycle ride from center of town.
