Wonderful and unique experience with our knowledgeable guide Javier, who literally walked us through the remarkable ecosystem of the preserve, the Mayan stingless bee and their many cousins, history and traditions, and of course a sensory treat tasting the various products these remarkable creatures produce! The preserve is a gorgeous outdoor treat as well. Don’t miss this one!

Our guides were so patient (our Spanish is not strong) and explained so many fascinating things about the Mayan culture and heritage, the white bees (melipona beechei) local trees and plants, and the honey making process - we learned about traditional beekeeping using hollow logs (jobones), tasted some amazing and unique honey and candies as well as enjoying the hand lotion made using the Melipona honey, and purchased gifts for family. What a great experience!

Dude! This experience was really cool, super affordable, inclusive, and fairly stunning (lots of “wow”s and “whoa”s)! On the edge of the small city, the jungle appears and you immediately cross over a threshold to another place. The guides are kind and knowledgable and open to others’ curiosity, and they pack a ton of info and experiences into 90 minutes! DO IT!

A really interesting and enjoyable experience. Don’t forget sunscreen — bug spray is helpful but not absolutely necessary. The guide was very informative, happy to answer questions, and his English was quite good. You get to taste several different types of honey at the end, with the option to purchase your favorites at the gift shop. If you have some spare time while traveling around the area, this is definitely worth checking out. Going earlier in the day is recommended to beat the crowds and the heat.
