What you'll do
Meet me (your host with an old fashioned clipboard) outside of The Eco Cafe in St Jacob's. This is the place where you can get freshly roasted coffee beans from all over the world. During Covid-19 I am offering the option to use 2 vehicles and cell phones for this tour. I will be in the lead car and when we are ready to go we'll connect by cellphone with our speakers on and get going on an amazing guided tour through Mennonite Country! The actual driving portion of the tour is set for one hour. I want to assure you it will be interesting and I want to warn you it could go longer! You'll want to ask questions and take in the amazing vistas and sights along the way. The tour can be totally customized and is very informal. When we come back to St Jacob's we can pop into Block Three Brewery, Jacob's Grill or The Eco Cafe for a beverage. This too is optional, if you would rather wander around the village that is perfectly fine. Dates and times are flexible as well. If you would like a tour for a bigger group please let me know but give me lots of lead time.Get ready to learn about the Mennonite community in the St Jacob's area!

I have lived in Waterloo for over 30 years and have rich experiences and passion for my community, which gives me the perfect perspective from which to plan a custom tour that shows off the rich Mennonite heritage of the area. As the owner of Your KW Host, offering relocation tours, I have met folks from all over the world. I also exercise my passion for community development and engagement as a City Of Waterloo Councillor.
I have actively managed or organized many community events and programs and mobilized countless numbers of volunteer teams over the years. I have lots of connections in the local community and I am curious and fascinated by the simple lifestyle and history of the Mennonites whom we live among.

Where you'll be
The Mennonite community is so fascinating to me. Did you know Mennonite Buggies are made for the cost of about $3500.00 by men in the community as a business, and that covered buggies are only for those who are married? That's just one interesting tidbit about our Mennonite neighours north of the City of Waterloo.

The Mennonite Story is a wonderful place to visit to learn about the history of the Mennonites and especially to learn more about the Old Order Mennonites. There are videos to watch and timelines to follow. Del, our guide, was very knowledgeable and could answer our many questions.
The brewery experience was really cool. It is such a rustic, family friendly place. There were unique games to play, like crokinole, and a friendly atmosphere. Angela brought yummy snacks from a local Mennonite food store and we got to try a flight of 4 beers from the brewery’s selection.
Angela is very knowledgeable about local shops in St Jacob’s and the surrounding area, which made us wish we had scheduled more time in the area . It was a special treat to see the people driving in their buggies pulled by horses.
