What you'll do

After a short, beautiful drive from downtown Charleston, you'll arrive on the dirt road of the farm, and you'll immediately get a feel for the quiet, peaceful John's Island life, which was and still is a farming community at heart. We'll get to know each other a bit, and then I'll take you on a tour, showing you the dairy itself -- where and how the goats get milked, and how that milk becomes cheese. Then you'll meet and get to know the goats, who are beautiful, gentle, loving creatures. After you meet the mamas, you'll get to meet their kids, the silly little babies who provide endless laughs and entertainment. Next, you'll get to sample the cheese and milk, and you'll have the opportunity to purchase some. Finally, you'll have the chance to simply relax, walk around, take pictures, and just enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of the farm, where a gaggle of geese, a pig named Gus, a fluffy sheep, and some very friendly dogs all enjoy the slow southern way of life.

Clifford

A third-generation native Charlestonian, and a veteran of the South Carolina National Guard and the US Air Force Reserve, I'm deeply ingrained in the land of this city and state. Yet it took over 20 years of working in real estate for me to come back to my roots, so to speak, and realize that farm life is the best life. Now I spend my days caring for and milking my goats and bringing fresh goat cheese and raw milk to the people of Charleston. I feel like I'm back where I belong.

Where you'll be

A working dairy farm bordering a small creek, with wide green pastures and magnolia trees, and of course a bunch of goats! It feels worlds away from downtown Charleston, yet is so close, and offers a window into the agricultural history of Charleston, as well as the present, where local farmers work hard to bring exceptional products to the restaurants of this culinary hot spot.
