What you'll do

The farm is only 20 minutes driving from downtown Reykjavík. When you arrive at the farm we go to the stables and get to know the horses in the stable. We then have a short riding lessons where I will show you the basics for riding the Icelandic horse and tell you the background of the Icelandic horse breed. You will then get your horse. Once you hae your horse, we start your riding lesson and once you are comfortable; we ride. The ride is about 40 minutes, we ride in a beautiful landscape, around our small valley. The ride will take us along a beautiful river which is hidden away from all tourists - my personal favourite. This is the perfect introduction to the Icelandic horse. We have all kinds of horses, for professional riders and beginners. When we arrive from the riding tour we go to the main building where traditional roasted lamb will be served in my kitchen prepared according to my family recipe. (local vegetarian options are available). The entire tour is about 3 hours and starts every weekday at 11.
Other things to note
In Iceland you can expect any kind of weather so be prepared.

My perfect day starts with my morning coffee, then off to the stables, ride my horses and then have a good lunch. This is what I would like to share with you.
Hello! welcome to my horse farm just outside of Reykjavík, here we have entertained many exclusive guests. I have a passion for horses and locally produced food and now I would love to share my passion exclusively with you and other members of the Airbnb community. I have traveled the world and found out that truly happy people are people with passion. Come to the farm and lets be happy for a day together.

Where you'll be

The farm is in Mosfellsdalur a beautiful secluded valley. The farm is a regular working horse farm where we work and live. Our tour will be around the valley (about 40 min). The ride will take us along a beautiful river where there are no tourists - only pure nature. This is my favourite riding route and I would love to share it with you.

Es war ein wunderschönere Tag mit unvergesslichen Momenten, unglaublich netten Menschen, wunderbaren Tieren und leckerem Essen. Wenn wir wieder reiten gehen, dann nur noch bei ihm.

This is a must when visiting Iceland. I have never been very comfortable around horses, and Hordur changed that. It was a great experience being able to ride a horse, and the landscape is amazing. We felt welcome immediately, and taken care of. The food was also amazing. Nothing but good things to say about this experience

The ride around Hordur's farm was a wonderful experience, even in the blistering wind! The fantastic lunch he served afterwards was the icing on the cake and we will definitely be back to join him on his beach ride on our next trip to Iceland.

This experience was wonderful. I would highly recommend it regardless of prior horse riding experience. It was my first time riding a horse in over 10 years but the coaching and the horses made it really easy and pleasant. I was running a few minutes late but Hordur kindly waited for me. The snow and wind were a bit cold but the horses were very easy-going. I enjoyed meeting everyone and the lunch afterward was delicious. I would love to return the next time I visit Iceland.

Winter was waiting for me to feel like a real Nordic rider, wind was strong, snow was dancing all around, a road was unclear and Savage. But the ancients Icelandic stallion managed to prove themselves as the strong companions that they were suppose to be back then. We manage the adversities and return back home to eat the best Lamb you can imagine to taste. Thanks Hordur for this experience fully recommended.

This was our favorite Airbnb experience throughout our trip to Iceland. We absolutely loved getting to know Hordur throughout the afternoon and had a great time riding the horses! The lunch severed afterwards was delicious and tasted like a true Icelandic meal. Hordur made our experience very enjoyable and we are looking forward to booking with him again in the future.
