What you'll do

Craving the freshest possible seafood? Learn the tricks of crabbing with a Charleston native who’s been doing it for years. This is a land based experience.

You will meet at a dock on a beautiful river to master the delicate art of throwing a cast net. You can even set bait and fish—it’s as hands-on as you’d like. Don’t worry about having the right skills; there’ll be plenty of activities available for everyone. Anyone 16 and up will require a saltwater fishing license.

The freshest seafood is what you can catch yourself, so expect to nab a crab, shrimp, and a variety of fish, too.
Other things to note
Everyone must wear a mask. There are no boats involved. We can catch and release or you can keep anything of legal size. We follow all South Carolina Department of Natural Resources rules and regulations.

I am a proud Charleston native with a passion for the outdoors and marine life. My family has been crabbing and casting for fun and food for generations. Crabbing has been therapeutic for me and gave me an outlet when I quit smoking, helping me become a healthier person in more ways than one. Then, when a friend started a Facebook page called "Casual Crabbing with Tia" and posted photos of my adventures, people started asking to come along and flocking to the docks. Within a few hours, those who start off as strangers end up as friends, and I love getting to share my passion with others.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at a private dock and pier in downtown Charleston. It’s a gorgeous pier on the water’s edge and has one of the best sunset views in the city.

If you are considering this, just book it already. Go see for yourself! Tia and Art and the crew are genuine, knowledgeable, hilarious, and know instinctively how to help make this experience one to remember. They meet everyone where they are at, and my two boys and husband and myself had the best time. Just do it! We are locals and are ready to tackle the waters now. I can’t say enough good things, except that not only does this experience teach you skills to crab, fish, etc, it puts you in connection with awesome people who add volumes to the experience (even Art).

My husband & older sons did this experience today. They really didn’t know what I had booked for them. They highly recommend this for people visiting the area first time or after many trips. Very informative, fun and just overall great lesson about crabbing and the Charleston way of life.

This was a great experience and definitely a must do in Charleston. You learn about different types of crabs, how to identify them and most importantly different ways to catch them. The time fly by and we had fish to eat later. There is a restaurant nearby that also cooks what you catch if you want assistance. Tia and her crew are passionate about their craft and educate you along the way. It was a good time by all.

If you go to Charleston, this is a MUST. Tia and Art were so fun and helpful. It was like we were goin crabbin with our friends. They were very good at instruction and you can tell they are REALLY into it. The location is awesome. The time flies by because you are havin so much fun and learning. You also get some of their background story and learn about crabs in general. The crabs themselves are actually quite pretty and put up some fight, but not too crazy so as to be off putting. Definitely recommend and will definitely do again if I go to Charleston.

This is a wonderful experience and a lovely way to spend a few hours in the sun. Tia is super engaging and knowledgeable, and her team is supportive and friendly - everyone had plenty of 1:1 coaching as we moved through various techniques for crabbing and fishing. I think everyone in the group experienced success catching a crab, and we all got to learn how to handle these blue crabs (and got airdropped lots of great photos to capture the memories). Highly recommend for a non-touristy activity to get a nice feel and appreciation for Charleston. Major kudos to Tia for fishing my hat out of the water when a gust of wind blew it off me - that is some talent! Thank you, Tia and co!
