Still COVIDCOMPLIANT per NC Governor & CDC guidelines, until further notice.
8 people per tour; held outside 6 feet apart & masks worn during hive inspection.
SUSTAINABLE BIO-DIVERSITY, HEALTHY BEES, EXQUISITE HONEY. This tour is about sustainable bio-diversity and the role of bees. Honeybees are the heartbeat of a healthy environment. Join us on an exploration of these incredible insects & what they mean for our food source & health of our forest. Experience the intensity of the bee colony, the power of the Queen and the fierce loyalty of her female subjects. A fun & adult introduction to a bees life is followed by doning a traditional bee suit, covered head to toe and participating in a personal “meet & greet” with the bees. Guests will inspect a hive with the beekeeper, hold a frame full of bees and experience the thrill of a Queen sighting! You will then come back to the house for a delicious honey tasting and food pairing. Savor honey from the Killer Bees apiary which like wine, will be expertly paired with a variety of foods. You will experience how each honey tastes different, and how each honey can be paired to fully compliment different types of foods. Champagne of course pairs with all honeys! Finally, visit the honey processing house where you will learn about artisanal methods of honey processing and receive your own souvenir bottle of Killer Bees Honey

This was a rare experience and a curiously exciting insight into the world of honeybees and the different varieties of honey they produce. Sean and Denise are world class experts on the care of their working hives and are so passionate about their craft they want to share it with as many people as possible. This tour is worth every penny so if you’re thinking it’s too expensive, think again. My husband and I absolutely loved it!

I surprised my husband (who has considered beekeeping) with this tour and didn't really know what to expect. It was well worth it! It felt like a full day by the end for the 4 hours. Sean, Jen, and Denise were all incredibly knowledgeable -- the first part of the "tour" was simply learning about bees, queen bees, hives, bees as a social organism, etc --and as opposed to being dry and boring, this was actually fascinating and one of my favorite parts of the tour. We suited up and went out to see the bees, went through the honey tasting (which was lovely!), bottled our own honey, and were able to purchase and help support at the end. We learned a TON about what goes into ethical beekeeping, how what Killer Bees Honey does really sets a standard (not only in the US, but also in the EU, where they have more stringent regulations), and about how much of the honey in the US is actually cut with other ingredients as opposed to being "pure" honey. I highly recommend! Would love to take other family members.

Very interesting tour to see the workings of high quality organic honey production. The hosts are extremely knowledgeable and made everybody in the party feel at home. The location is at their beautiful home on a 75 acre tract on top of a mountain near Lake Toxaway. The tour started out with a detailed and informative talk about bees and how a hive of bees works together as a tightly integrated super-organism. Then put on protective suits to go out and look look inside of hives producing honey. This was followed with a honey tasting and pairing. There were 14 people of all ages in the group we were in and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful and unique experience! We learned so much about the special place of bees in our ecosystem, and the husband and wife conducting the tour of their apiary really took the time to educate us. Seeing the behives up-close and being geared up in actual beekeeping attire was an amazing experience. Of special note is that the experience included GOURMET finger foods paired with honey. Their knowledge and passion for beekeeping was contagious, and they both have a fantastic sense of humor to go along with their extensive and life-long knowledge of beekeeping. It was truly a wonderful experience to see their bees, and an honor to be allowed into their beautiful home. This experience is a must-do!! The food and honey pairing (and champagne!) are really unique, tasty and special.

Sean and Denise articulately expresses their passion for honeybees and their vital role in the ecosystem and share it with the community in the most amazing way. After an informative session on these harmonious pollinators, we got to handle them ourselves the. Moved on to a honey tasting and pairing that was delicious, can’t express our satisfaction enough!
