What you'll do

This is a walking and history tour that walks the complete outside circumference of the gated portion of the White House. Prior to 09/11, as a former White House staffer, I could simply show my ID and take visitors in for a tour. That perk evaporated on 09/12/2001, and inside tours must be requested through a member of Congress. An external, walking tour is the next best things to a tour inside, with my sharing features of major rooms in the White House, the West Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where my office was when I worked at the White House.
In addition to the history of the building and stories about some of its occupants, you get the perspective of a former White House staffer who worked for two US presidents and on the campaigns of two candidates who did not win the presidency. I have met every president who has served during my lifetime, from FDR through the current president.
The meet place is outside the White House Visitor Center, on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets, NW.
The walk begins by passing through the recently dedicated National World War I Memorial, and proceeds past the Sherman Monument to the Ellipse on the side of the White House, with stories, photographs, and opportunities for questions.
Continuing toward the official front of the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we pass the first headquarters of the America

I was born in Savannah, Georgia, and grew up on a family farm near Baxley, Georgia. After getting an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and Oxford University, I took an entry-level job at the US Senate, followed by an entry-level job in the JKF White House in 1961. With frequent assignments as a note-taker sitting in on meetings President Kennedy and later President Johnson had, I often saw the Presidents more often than my bosses.

Another assignment entry-level staffers also got was giving tours of the White House to special visitors.

Although I never got a promotion, I looked forward to going to work every day; however, when I left the White House staff, I got a quantum-leap-promotion, going back to the US Senate where I have been an entry-level staffer to a powerful Senator, I returned as Chief of Staff.

I cannot recommend this guided tour enough. Daniel is an incredibly personable and intelligent individual with a extremely rich history of working in various capacities around Washington. My only advice to tour goers would be to come prepared with questions!

this is a must do tour. Daniel has so much knowledge and stories of things he lived through personally the knowledge he has is such a gift and is worth far more than the tour price take it and you'll enjoy.

It's nice to hear stories about what it's like working in the White House and how previous administrations function. It's better than just going up to the White House and snapping a picture. It was also cool hearing stories while walking around and also seeing Secret Service members reporting for duty.

Daniel’s talking tour is an excellent way to spend a few hours hearing stories about working in the White House and DC in general. Daniel was very cordial and informative. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting DC looking for something different to do.
