What you'll do

Who doesn't like a little local history combined with a little historic treasure to bring home in your pocket? Maybe you won't find a Roman coin here (maybe you will?), but you'll find a mind-blowing amount of local history and cool vintage trash. If you're into pottery shards, marbles, bottles, things lost or left behind by the logging and fishing industry workers of days gone by, you'll enjoy this reasonably priced outing. We will explore what it takes to build a town. [Spoiler alert - it takes a lot of alcohol , as noted by the large amount of old liquor bottles.] We'll meet at a parking lot. Depending upon the weather / tides / your taste in trash, I will select an area to visit. We most likely climb over a little dike and shimmy down onto the tidal area. This experience is very tide dependent, which is why I only offer it on certain days and times. We'll tool around here for maybe a couple of hours until you're tired and ready to quit and I'm, like, "Just one more little cove!" Afterward, we will go find coffee or something similar , and look over our finds and discuss them.
This event is dirty, fun and unusual.
Other things to note: You will NEED rubber boots. There is a hardware store across the street from where we'll meet that sells boots, if you don't already have them. It may be rainy / windy. Dress accordingly.
But it may be lovely. Did I mention trains?

Hello! I am a photographer who has lived in the Pacific Northwest for 42 years. I love it! I have been mudlarking our local river mud (Grays Harbor area) for about 5 years. I am enthusiastically obsessed with the history our rivers want to reveal to us. When I first began mudlarking here I thought about how great it would be to not have all of this MUD. I have since embraced the mud and look forward to the "schroooootch" and ooze of it!

Where you'll be

This experience takes place in the muddy tidal areas along a local river, near a draw bridge in a town. You'll hear the echo of the trains across the river. You'll smell the fog and rain and ... other stuff.

I had the most wonderful time learning from Marcy. I have never heard about Mudlarking and if you haven’t either it’s better to participate in it rather then read about it. Marcy is your go to gal!
