What you'll do
You'll be running along a magical beach shoreline. The trail meanders along paved and boarded walkways, serene forested sand sections, a lagoon shoreline, an ancient tribal heritage site, and loads more. Numerous animal and exotic plant species will appear along the way. This hidden tropical gem is a must-do natural experience along the Indian Ocean. At the end of it all is a refreshing swim in the ocean or a fresh-water shower.

I was lucky enough to grow up in, and explore this location as a child. With my love of the ocean and adventure, it was like heaven on earth having this amazing forest reserve on my doorstep. In my later years I went on to travel and explore many remote and wild places around the world as a cause-based adventurer. Now that I'm back home in Africa it's a privilege to create and pass along these experiences to others.
Where you'll be
Navigate your way to the Durban View parking lot. There should be plenty of parking available. Get your trail shoes and sunscreen on, then make your way to the drinking fountain on the sea side of the parking lot. This is where I will brief you on the experience. After the briefing your journey will begin with a sedate promenade along the shores of the Indian Ocean to the entrance of the coastal forest reserve, where the magic and fun begins.

My husband and I had a lovely run with Nick. It was a super hot day, but cool through the forest - and the breezes off the ocean (and the knowledge we could jump into it at the end) were also cooling. The trail is a bit hidden and for those of us from away it was nice to have a guide to lead us. It’s not that challenging (unless you go extremely quickly, I suppose), and the whole distance we covered was around 7km. Nick also has some pretty crazy adventure stories (running and otherwise) to share as well if you ask him.

We did this trail run at 7am in the middle of winter and still thoroughly enjoyed it! Nick was punctual and incredibly knowledgeable on the surrounding area and trail running. He also allowed us to go at our own pace and shared some of his adventure race experiences from Southern Africa. We would definitely recommend Nick’s service for anyone wanting to try something unique in Umhlanga.
