What you'll do

Visit and connect with the old world house cow of the North, the Scottish Highland cow. You can get close to this docile breed: pet, scratch, brush and even hug these magnificent beasts. They love it as much as you will. There are calves and they are very cute!
If you are feeling adventuresome, book two hours, from 9 -11. I let the cows out at nine. We can go with them for some forest bathing as they browse in the woods. We might identify some edible plants and berries and bring them back with us. We will be out for about one hour. Then we will come back for some cuddles with the calves and yearlings. I may prepare a snack incorporating things we have found in the woods. This experience will require sure footedness, heavy clothes, mosquito protection, and hiking boots. Mostly trail less with some heavy brush. This experience would be the best way to share our lifestyle with you.

I homesteaded this land and built my log house from the the trees on the property. We wild graze our cattle in the summer and are out with them most days. A life style I and my son enjoy. Living off the land as much as possible is important to us. We raise our cattle, hunt, fish, forage, grow vegetables in our garden and greenhouse. We preserve our food by canning, drying, smoking, freezing and storing in our root cellar.

Wow, what an experience! My partner and I had the best time out in the pasture with the cows. Tons of interaction and hugs of course. Carmelo was equally warm and inviting, shared some stories and knowledge about the cows. The hospitality was above our expectations. Thanks you so much Carmelo!

Great time if you love animals. We were able to get lots of great photos with the cows. We were also surprised by the birds. It was really cool watching them fly up to us and let them feed us from the hand. It was definitely worth the drive up from Anchorage and highly recommended.

Best place to go and fall back in love with nature and all its creatures. Carmelo is a great host and the highland cows were so lovely in person. They were sooooo softtttt omg. Will have to come back again! So much land to explore and walk with the highland cows and Carmelo prepared some delicious snacks/treats and tea. So thankful to have this experience. Thanks again Carmelo!!!

First off, Carmelo was a fantastic host! He accommodated our request on coming a little later in the morning/early afternoon due to weather conditions. He clearly enjoys his time with his animals - along with his cows, there was Sun Spot, his dog and Rose, his pig. We spent the majority of our time with his cows and just enjoyed these sweet and docile four-legged cuties. He also prepared some delicious snacks and Chaga tea for us. Hands down would recommend doing this experience and would definitely carve time the next we make it up to Anchorage.

We had so much fun on the farm with Carmelo. He even made us some vegetable broth and made us a plate of snacks which were delicious and a very thoughtful thing to do. The cows are super cute and sweet.

There is so much to do in this area but please please take the time to see Carmelo. He is doing something really great out in the woods and it was among the coolest things we did in Alaska. The memory will last way beyond the trip for sure. This guy captures the true Alaskan spirit. He was very flexible when we were running late and really made this a personal experience. Awesome photos too!
