What you'll do

Leave busy Copenhagen city and enjoy Jægersborg Deer Park (Dyrehaven), the old royal forest. While we walk you have a unique chance to look lots of deer in the eyes. 2,000 wild deer live in Dyrehaven and they are a great photo opportunity.

This light hike is approx 7 km (4.5 mile) and we walk through one of Denmark’s 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites: The par force hunting landscape in North Zealand. Together we explore the paths and glades of the hunting system which were set by one of the absolute Danish kings exactly 350 years ago.

You will also experience fragments of Denmark’s history close up when I tell you about Denmark’s first soccer match; a buried treasure; a duel over offended honour; and of course the world’s oldest, still-existing amusement park, Dyrehavsbakken. I will show you places and tell you stories about Dyrehaven that even many Copenhageners do not know.

We take a break next to The Hermitage Royal Hunting Lodge (Eremitageslottet), a beautiful Baroque building that thrones on a small hill and has a fine view of the Swedish coast.

This walk is your opportunity to relax and exercise a little in nature close to Copenhagen. And the tour runs rain or shine – so dress for the unpredictable Danish weather!

I can guide you both in Danish and English. Please contact me if you have questions.

Hi, my name is Bente. I am a qualified tourist guide, educated at Roskilde University.

I am born and raised in the Copenhagen area and good stories are the meaning of life to me – let me entertain you with some.

Dyrehaven (The Deer Park) where this walk takes place has always been one of my favorite walking spots and I know it like the back of my hand – so you will never get lost when you walk with me ;-)

This tour with Bente was a highlight of my trip to Copenhagen. It’s possible to walk the park alone but I wouldn’t have been able to read the signs or have the level of insight and historical knowledge that Bente has about it. It was a pleasure getting to talk to her and learn more about Danish culture. She was so thoughtful to provide snacks. We got to see many deer and it was fun walking through the amusement park during the off season. Bente is so kind and professional, I highly recommend going on a tour with her!

I had a great hike with Bente! The place is not far from Copenhagen and easy to get to. Bente gave me clear instructions on how to get there. She even reminded me on the train strike that morning. The hike was mostly flat and easy and it was very pleasant! Bente explained clearly about what par force hunting is and how they manage the park and deers now. We saw many lovely deers! Bente also answered my questions about living in Denmark. I took her suggestion and went to Louisiana and had enjoyed the Moon exhibition she mentioned! Thanks, Bente!

This was an amazing experience and just outside of Copenhagen city centre! You wouldn’t believe such places exist just 20 mins away by train. We encountered so many deers along the way and Bente was extremely knowledgeable about the whole place from the “palace” to the Par Force hunting route. She guided us through some less used route and gave us unique insight into the place!

Bente was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. My tour with her was the very first thing I did after landing in Copenhagen and I fully recommend Bente's tour. Her wholesome manner started my trip to Denmark on a wonderful note. I not only learned about the park, hunting, and the history of Denmark, she got me oriented for my whole trip.
