What you'll do

We'll start from the old government wharf on the shores of Lake Te Anau, at the end of the main street. After a very light hearted safety brief and introduction we'll start cruising toward the Hidden Lakes Wharf, about 40 minutes away in the South Fiord.

On the way you'll be invited to have a drink of your choice (we have quite a number to choose from!!) while listening to the history of Faith as she sailed from Scotland to New Zealand.

On arrival we'll disembark, and you'll take a guided walk into the first of the Hidden Lakes. This takes about 45 minutes with lots of little stops for us to tell you about the surrounding flora and fauna. This is an easy walk, and one you're not likely to see anyone else on - other than those in your group (maximum of 16).

Upon return to Faith, you'll be served morning or afternoon tea, and will have time to sit and enjoy the peace of the National Park.

Once you're ready, we'll leave the wharf and hoist the sails for the return journey - which you can help us with if you choose. While we'd like to sail all the way home, it's usual to run the engine to get us home on time.

We'll arrive back to the wharf after approximately 3 hours.
Other things to note
It's important to consider changing weather during the 3 hours we're away. A jacket is important. Also consider preparing for motion sickness as the lake can get a little rough at times.

New Zealand born, I have lived in Te Anau for 6 years now. Originally working as a sea plane pilot, I have seen and enjoyed much of the Fiordland National Park, and love to show our passengers the stunning scenery we are surrounded by while cruising aboard Faith. My friend George and I built this experience as a result of our combined experience as concierges, delivering experiences, providing accommodation, and being involved in the local tourism community. I have no desire to be anywhere else in the world. I wake up every morning excited and truly grateful, and look forward to showing you around!!

Where you'll be

You'll visit the Hidden Lakes area of the Fiordland National Park, in the South Fiord of Lake Te Anau. This is a fresh water fiord, formed the same way as the salt water fiords on the other side of the mountain range. The area can only be accessed by boat, and is a wonderful example of the scenery in the more remote regions of the south west of NZ. The lake is very deep here at 417 metres, and has a fascinating geological history to be told.

Sailing out on M.Y. Faith was an absolute highlight of our trip; gorgeous views across Lake Te Anau! Adam and Rebecca displayed almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the boats history and the region's surrounding features, definitely a trip to recommend!

Highly recommend. Nice trip on a beautiful sailing boat with quite a history. Our kids were even allowed to steer the ship! Adam and his wife were so welcoming and friendly right from the heard, amazing hosts with such a happy attitude! Only the drinks could have been colder. Beer, white wine and bubbles are a treat but not so much if lukewarm.
