What you'll do

You will take part in a quintessentially British experience, boating on the River Thames. Away from the noise and bustle of the city center and fully immersed in the leafy suburbs of London you will learn about barges, locks, life on the river and riverside pubs!

A typical cruise will start in Walton on Thames where I will welcome you on board with a Cappuccino and a Danish Pastry. I will show you around the boat and chat briefly about safety procedures while on board. With that out of the way we will set on our journey. This will be your chance to slow down, relax and adapt to the pace of life on the river. The gorgeous and tranquil Surrey landscapes will help you in the process.

Our first lock will be only 30 minutes away and for those with no previous experience this will be a chance to familiarize with the procedure of 'passing a lock' and take active part with the handling of the boat. It's good fun and a way to learn about boating on the river.

Plenty to see and do on the way to Hampton Court where we will moor up just by the Palaces gardens for lunch and a look around. A riverside pub stop on the way back will complete the day.

Born in Italy, European at heart. My passion for boats started on the Adriatic Sea when I was a teenager. Since, I have sailed extensively in Italy, Croatia, The Solent and I have also completed the crossing of the Tasman Sea between Sydney and New Zealand. I have lived in London for over 20 years and the Thames is for me a natural connection to the sea. Over the years I have explored every corner of it and I have come to appreciate and love all the different aspects this river has to offer. This passion for boats, sea and the Thames is at the heart of my Experience. I do hope that with taking part in my experience you too will discover an aspect of this river that will catch your imagination and encourage you to return for more.

Where you'll be

Starting in Walton on Thames we will navigate the Thames up to Hampton Court Palace where we will moor up next to the Palace's Gardens for lunch. Beside the Palace itself where you will have some time to explore the surroundings and village there will be more to see and do on route as we will negotiate a few locks and will go past the Astoria (a grand houseboat adapted as a recording studio by its new owner, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour).

The trip on Luigi’s beautiful boat was a birthday treat with 4 friends and we have all had the most brilliant day. We were made to feel very welcome and so special. The journey was fantastic and being able to participate with the locks was great. All the many refreshments and delicious lunch were beautifully served and the whole day was a fantastic experience that we are all keen to repeat and recommend.

Luigi and Monica were amazing, friendly passionate hosts. They welcomed us with ease and made us feel at home. The breakfast and lunch they provided had a real sense of homeliness. They let us get involved in the experience with confidence which made the day even the more special. All 6 of us had a day we won't forget and would highly recommend it to everyone.

This boat trip is such a nice break from busy London. The boat is beautiful and Luigi is a wonderful host. Going upper river through locks, walking around the Hampton court, lunch on the boat, and a pub stop! Such British experience! Walton on Thames is easy to get from Waterloo station or Wimbledon. Highly recommend!

I would highly recommend booking a trip with Luigi. I booked a day out with him to celebrate my fiancé’s 40th birthday. It was a surprise so I had some specific requirements. From the very beginning of the booking process Luigi was understanding and helpful. He accommodated my request and answered the questions I had. On the day itself my fiancé and I had an amazing time with Luigi. Luigi has a wonderful personality that makes you feel relaxed as soon as you get on board. He’s so chilled out. He talked us through how the boat worked and I was really impressed to hear he has been working with boats all his life. He also cooked a lovely lunch for us. I can’t wait to repeat this experience with family and friends soon.

Where to start? Maybe by a massive thank you to Luigi for this unique experience! This boat trip gives you an excellent overview and coverage of west London. Very informative, Luigi was welcoming. Me and my family thoroughly enjoyed our trip along the river and found out local discovery as we went along. And the food was delicious, without mentioning the bottomless Prosecco! Definitely recommend this wonderful experience for any couple or family wanting to have a memorable moment in London.

Luigi was warm and welcoming. Very clear with instructions on how to assist with the locks. The pastries with hot beverages first thing we arrived on the boat were delicious. I co-ordinated with Luigi beforehand on the dietary requirements in our group of 5 and Luigi produced a lunch that was simply yummy. The boat was very comfortable and we all had a magical time meandering down the Thames.
